Tom is four. Tom likes his red hat. He puts it on his bed. Tom wants to play. He hugs his teddy bear. He drives cars on the floor. He giggles. He makes funny faces in the mirror. Then Tom looks at his bed. Where is Tom's red hat?
Tom feels curious. He looks under his bed. He finds a sock. “Not my hat,” says Tom. Tom looks behind the chair. He finds a toy car. “Not my hat,” says Tom. Tom smiles. He can look more!
Tom asks Teddy, “Teddy, did you see my red hat?” Teddy is quiet. Tom laughs. “Let's look together!” Tom crawls on the rug. He peeks behind the big blue pillow. He finds a book. He puts it back.
Tom checks his toy box. There is a ball, a boat, and a drum. No red hat. Tom thinks. Tom remembers. He wore his red hat when he played in the hallway. He skips to the hallway. He looks left. He looks right. He sees something red.
Tom runs. His red hat sits on the floor by the shoes! “Yay! Here is my hat!” says Tom. Tom hugs his hat. He puts it on his head. He feels happy.
Tom says, “Thank you, Teddy, for helping me look. We are good detectives!”
It is fun to look and find together. Sometimes, the answer is closer than we think.
