There are five characters: four children—Mia, 5, short brown hair, yellow polka-dot dress, crouched left of the rug holding a small shiny metal bell; Lola, 4, blonde pigtails, pink sweater, seated center of the rug smiling and pointing at crumbs; Nia, 5, dark-skinned, black braid, blue t‑shirt, right of the rug leaning forward with a blue cup; Zuzu, boy, 5, red hair, in a small rolling chair wearing green overalls, rolled toward the toy chest with his hand on its lid—and one animal, Pudding, a small grey tabby cat with round green eyes, behind the toy chest looking forward with a small crumb on its paw. The bright warm playroom has a cream polka-dot round rug, light wood coffee table with a white plate holding five crackers, an open blue-painted pine toy chest with colorful blocks spilling out, low shelves and a window with red-check curtains letting in soft light. The children are investigating a missing cracker, following a trail of small white crumbs from the rug to the toy chest, looking curious and smiling. report a problem with this image

Mia, Lola, Nia, and Zuzu sat on a soft rug in the playroom. Zuzu had little wheels on her chair. She rang a tiny bell.

“Case time,” said Mia.

Lola clapped. Nia held a blue cup. Zuzu smiled.

On the table was a plate. It should have six round crackers. Now there were five.

“Oh!” said Lola. “One is gone.”

Mia leaned close. “We will look.”

They all looked down. On the rug were small crumbs, like dots.

Nia pointed. “Dots go that way.”

The dots led to the toy box. The lid was a bit up.

Zuzu rolled near. “I can see,” she said. “A trail!”

Mia lifted the lid. Inside were blocks, a ball, and a big teddy.

“Teddy?” said Lola. She giggled. “Teddy likes snacks?”

Nia tapped teddy's lap. Crumbs were there. Mia looked at teddy's paw. It had a sticky spot.

Then a soft “meow” came from behind the box. A small cat, Pudding, peeked out.

“Pudding!” said Zuzu. “You are our helper.”

Pudding walked to teddy and sniffed. Under teddy's arm was one cracker.

Mia picked it up. “Found!”

Lola put the cracker back on the plate. Nia wiped teddy's paw with a cloth.

They all patted Pudding. Pudding purred.

They laughed and ate crackers together, calm and cozy.
