Four nearly two-year-old girls—Mia (short blond hair, red polka-dot dress, holding a small red ball), Bea (brown pigtails, yellow sweater, kneeling and looking under a chair), Lia (straight black hair, blue overalls, pointing at a shelf) and Zoe (curly chestnut hair, green t-shirt, gently lifting a fabric basket)—are in a bright playroom with a beige sheepskin rug, a light wood bookshelf of colorful books, a white chair, a gray toy basket and a round window letting in soft morning light; the four little detectives are cheerfully searching for a missing red ball, following clues like tiny footprints, a red thread and a jam stain on a tray, in a calm, pastel-colored scene centered on the rug and basket. report a problem with this image

Four little girls play in a bright room. They are almost two. Mia, Bea, Lia, and Zoe giggle. They build a tower. Toc-toc goes a block. Hop! The block falls. They laugh.

Then Mia shows a red ball. Plouf! The ball is gone. "Where?" says Mia. "Where?" say the girls. They look. They make a plan. They are small friends. They are brave friends.

Bea is the looker. She looks under the chair. She peeks behind the couch. "No ball," she says. Lia is the list maker. She points to the shelf. She points to the box. Zoe is the clue finder. She pats the rug. She finds a trail of small rubs. "Ah!" she says.

The girls go step by step. They say "Follow!" and clap. They sing a little tune. Toc-toc, hop, clap. They find a bit of red thread. They find small shoe marks. They find a crumb of snack. They show each other. They all smile.

Mia remembers the snack. "We had snack," she says. The girls nod. They look at the snack tray. On the tray is a tiny paw print of jam. Mia laughs. "Jam paw!" she says. The girls look at the pet bunny by the door. The bunny sits very still. It wags its tiny tail. Hop, hop.

Zoe lifts the soft toy basket. Plouf! The red ball is there. The bunny had nudged it in. The girls clap. "Yay!" they sing. They hug the ball. They pat the bunny. All is calm.

They share the ball. They share a giggle. They put the blocks back. The room is tidy and bright.

Moral: Friends look, help, and share to find lost things with a kind heart.
