A fox sidekick: friendly round-featured red fox crouched to the kitten’s left following the trail with its nose to the ground. A chick side character: fluffy yellow chick perched on the back of a chair to the right, excitedly watching. A little mouse: shy gray mouse smiling and half-emerging from behind the chair wearing a red sock as a hat. Setting: colorful child’s bedroom with star-patterned rug, large green velvet armchair, open toy box and warm sunlight through a window. Main scene: joyful discovery of the missing sock — the small investigators circle the chair with happy, conspiratorial expressions, playful doodles of footprints and little stars around. report a problem with this image

Cat Dot wakes up. The sun is soft. Dot sniffs the room. A sock is gone. Dot frowns. "Oh no," Dot says. "Who has the sock?"

Dot puts on a tiny hat. Dot is a kind cat. Dot is a small sleuth. Dot calls Fox and Bird. "Help me," Dot says. "Find the sock."

Fox comes fast. Bird hops in. They look by the bed. They look by the door. Dot asks, "Look low. Look high. Look by the box." Can you look too? Can you see the sock?

They find a fur trail. The trail is soft. It leads to the big chair. Dot sniffs. Fox sniffs. Bird looks. A tiny tail pops out. "Peek!" says a voice. A mouse peeks. The mouse has the sock on his head like a hat. He giggles.

Dot smiles. "You wear my sock!" Dot says. Mouse is shy. He is cold. He wanted a hat. Fox brings a warm scarf. Bird brings a crumb. Dot gives the sock back. Mouse keeps the hat for a play. They all laugh. Dot folds the sock. Dot puts it in a box.

They play and sing. The sun goes warm. All are safe.
