Mia is one. Mia likes to toddle. Today she has a tiny job. She is the home clue kid.
Mama looks at the rug. “My blue sock is gone,” she says.
Mia pats the rug. Pat, pat. “Hmm,” says Mia.
She sees one sock on Mama's foot. One sock is gone. That is the case.
Mia gets her small bag. In it: a spoon, a soft bear, and a big smile.
Mia looks low. She looks high. She looks by the shoe spot. No sock.
Papa comes in. “I saw a sock,” he says. “I saw it run!” He makes a silly run with his feet. Mia giggles.
Mia finds a clue. A bit of fluff. White fluff, by the couch.
Mia points. “Couch!” she says.
Mama goes with Mia. They lift the couch edge a tiny bit. Mia peeks.
No sock. Just a toy car. Mia taps it. “Beep,” says Papa.
Mia looks at the cat bed. The cat is in a warm loaf. Mia waves. “Hi, cat,” she says.
The cat blinks slow. Mia sees a blue bit near the bed.
Mia crawls close. She pulls, slow and kind.
Out comes the blue sock! It is soft. It smells like clean.
Mama claps. “You found it!” she says.
Papa bows. “Detective Mia!” he says.
Mia puts the sock in Mama's hand. Mama gives Mia a hug. The cat purrs. The case is done.
Mia smiles. “All set,” she says.
