A playful 2-year-old girl with short brown hair and a delighted round face holds a small red sock and looks at a gray tabby cat with a sock on its paw like a hat, sitting on a small polka-dot rug near a white wooden chair in a light-wood floored kitchen-childroom; a smiling blonde woman in her 30s stands by the kitchen door with hands on hips in the background, a toy box with stuffed animals nearby; soft morning light, pastel colors, rounded contours, calm warm atmosphere as the girl offers the sock toward the mother while the cat blinks peacefully. report a problem with this image

Mia is three. She wears a red hat. She plays in the room. She has a small box. The box is quiet. Then Mia sees a sock is gone.

"Oh no," says Mia. "Where is my sock?"

Mia is a little sleuth. She taps her chin. She looks at the bed. She looks at the chair. She looks at the toy box. The sock is not there.

"Can you help?" asks Mia.

Look with Mia. What do you see? A blue bear? A red car? A trail of dots?

Mia finds a trail. Soft dots on the floor. The dots are tiny paw prints. They are small and round. Mia smiles. "A pet?" she says.

Mia tiptoes. She follows the dots to the door. The dots go through the door. The dots go to the kitchen. Mia sees crumbs. She laughs. The sock was not in the crumbs.

Mia hears a tiny rustle. She peeks by the chair. A cat naps there. The cat has a sock on its paw! The cat purrs. The sock is stuck on the paw like a small cap.

"Hello, kitty," says Mia. She pats the cat. The cat blinks. Mia pulls the sock off. It comes off with a soft pop. The sock is clean. Mia claps.

She brings the sock back. Her mom smiles. "Good job, Mia," says Mom. "You found it."

Mia gives the cat a small treat. The cat eats it. The cat purrs and hops away. Mia hugs her sock. She slips it on her foot.

Mia solved the mystery. She used her eyes. She used her hands. She used her kind heart. She had fun. The house is calm. The room is bright.

Kind eyes and a calm heart help solve small puzzles.
