A joyful, proud 2-year-old girl with light brown hair in short pigtails, wearing a small hat and a blue polka-dot dress, reaches into the bottom of a slightly open white fridge to a cold container of berries; a gentle-smiling mother in her 30s with tied brown hair and a pale apron stands nearby with a hand on the door; a chubby happy baby boy (Leo), 6–9 months with fine blond hair, sits in a high chair holding a small pink spoon stained with berry juice; a curious ginger tabby cat (Nori) sits on the floor paw raised watching; bright, warm kitchen with light tiles, a wooden table and soft window light, tender and playful mood with berry stains and a triumphant little detective. report a problem with this image

Mia is four. Mia likes puzzles. Today she wears a little hat and holds a small pad.

In the kitchen, Mama hums. On the table sits a blue bowl. It is empty.

“Oh!” says Mia. “The berries are gone.”

Mama blinks. “My sweet berries?”

Mia nods. “We will find them. I am a tiny detective.

She looks close. On the table is a red dot. On the floor is one small green leaf.

Mia points. “Clue!”

Baby Leo sits in his chair. He taps his cup. “Tap tap,” he says.

Mia smiles. “Hi, Leo. Did you see the berries?”

Leo giggles. “Ba! Ba!”

Mia walks slow. She sees two red dots by the chair. She sees a tiny wet mark on the tray.

“Clue trail,” says Mia. “Follow me.”

She and Mama walk to the sink. There is a spoon. It is pink. It has red on it.

Mama laughs soft. “A berry spoon.”

Mia sniffs. “Mmm. Sweet.”

She looks left. The cat, Nori, sits like a statue. Nori licks a paw. “Mew,” says Nori.

Mia crouches. “Nori, do you have berries?”

Nori blinks. Nori's bowl has dry food. No red. Mia pats Nori. “Not you.”

Mia looks right. The fridge door is a bit open. Just a bit.

“Oh!” says Mia. “A secret door!”

Mama closes it. “It did not shut.”

Mia opens it again. On the low shelf is a small box. The lid is tipped.

Inside are berries. Safe and cool.

Mia claps. “Found!”

Mama smiles. “How did they get here?”

Mia thinks. She points to the counter. A shopping bag sits there. The box is light. It can slide.

Papa walks in. “I put the box on the edge,” he says. “It slipped. I did not see.”

Mia nods. “Case solved!”

They wash the berries. Mia gives Leo one. Leo makes a happy “Mmm!”

Mama hugs Mia. “Good eyes, tiny detective.”

Mia writes on her pad: “Look. Spot. Follow.”

A gentle moral: When we look close and help each other, small mysteries become easy and fun.
