Chapter 1: Anna Sees Autumn Arrive
Anna is a little girl. Anna is three years old. Anna loves to go to the park. Today, Anna puts on her warm coat. Mommy helps her put on her little red boots. Anna smiles.
“Let's go to the park, Mommy!” says Anna.
The air is cool. The sun is soft. Anna holds Mommy's hand. She feels happy.
When Anna gets to the park, she stops. She looks all around. The trees are different today. The leaves are red, yellow, and orange. Some leaves are brown. Some leaves are still green.
“Look, Mommy! The leaves are changing,” says Anna.
“Yes, Anna,” says Mommy. “The leaves change when autumn comes. Autumn is a special time.”
Anna sees leaves falling down from the trees. The leaves dance and twirl in the wind. Anna laughs. She tries to catch a leaf. The leaf lands on her nose!
“Silly leaf!” giggles Anna.
Chapter 2: Walking and Wondering
Anna walks on the crunchy path. Crunch, crunch, crunch go her boots. Leaves cover the ground like a soft blanket. Anna picks up a big yellow leaf.
“This leaf is so pretty,” says Anna.
She picks up a little red leaf. She finds a brown leaf with funny shapes. Anna puts the leaves in her pocket.
Anna and Mommy see a squirrel. The squirrel runs and jumps. It finds an acorn and hides it under a pile of leaves.
“Why does the squirrel hide the acorn?” asks Anna.
“The squirrel is getting ready for winter,” says Mommy. “In autumn, animals get ready for cold days.”
Anna nods. She feels the cool wind on her face. She smells the fresh, leafy air. She hears birds singing and the wind whispering.
Chapter 3: Anna's Autumn Picnic
Anna and Mommy sit on a bench. They eat apple slices and warm bread. Anna sees her breath in the air. She blows and laughs.
“Look, Mommy! My breath looks like a cloud.”
Mommy smiles. “Autumn is full of surprises.”
Anna feels happy and cozy. She gives Mommy a big hug. Anna looks at her pocket full of leaves.
“I like autumn, Mommy,” says Anna. “Autumn is pretty.”
“Yes, Anna,” says Mommy. “Autumn is beautiful. Nature can change, and that is wonderful.”
Anna closes her eyes. She listens to the leaves. She feels safe. She feels loved.
Anna knows autumn is a special time. She can't wait to come back to the park again.
