Chapter 1: Sparkly Snow and Happy Plans

“Look, Mia!” said Jack, his cheeks red from the cold. “The snow is so sparkly today!”

Mia smiled and pushed her wheelchair a little faster. Her wheels made funny squeaky sounds in the soft snow. “It looks like glitter!” she giggled. “Do you think snowflakes have parties at night?”

Jack laughed. “Maybe! Maybe they dance and sing and make new snow for us!” He scooped up some snow and tossed it gently in the air. “Happy New Year, snowflakes!”

Mia clapped her mittens. “Happy New Year, snow!” Then she looked at Jack. “Let's make the best New Year's decorations ever. I want to hang them all over the big room for the party tonight.”

Jack nodded. “Yes! The biggest, brightest, shiniest ones! Let's use all the colors.”

Mia and Jack rolled and ran to the cozy ski lodge. Inside, it was warm and smelled like cookies and hot chocolate.

Mia pointed to a big box on the table. “Look, Jack! Decoration stuff!”

Jack opened the box with a big smile. “Oh! Ribbons! Glitter! And... what's this?” He held up a piece of shiny blue paper.

Mia looked closer. “It has words on it. Can you read it?”

Jack sounded out the letters. “It says... ‘Look under the red hat for a New Year's wish!'” He looked at Mia with wide eyes. “What does that mean?”

Mia's eyes were sparkly like the snow. “Let's find out!”

Chapter 2: The Secret of the Red Hat

Jack and Mia looked around the big room. There were hats everywhere. Tall hats, tiny hats, hats with pom-poms, hats with stars.

Jack scratched his head. “Which one is the red hat?”

Mia laughed. “Let's look at them all!”

So they did. They peeked under a green hat. “No wish here,” said Jack.

They peeked under a pink hat. “No wish here,” said Mia.

Then Jack saw it. “Look, Mia! A big red hat on the window!”

Mia zipped over in her wheelchair. “Let's look!”

Jack lifted the red hat. Underneath, there was a little silver box and another note.

Mia read the note. “It says, ‘Open the box, say your wish, and sprinkle the magic confetti!'”

Jack's mouth made an “O” shape. “Wow! Magic confetti!”

Mia opened the little box. Inside was sparkly confetti, shining with all the colors of the rainbow.

Jack giggled. “What should we wish for?”

Mia thought and thought. “I wish for everyone to be happy and have fun at the party.”

Jack nodded. “Me too! And I wish for lots of giggles!”

Mia smiled big. “Let's say our wish together!”

So Jack and Mia held hands. They closed their eyes and said, “We wish for everyone to be happy, have fun, and giggle lots at the New Year party!”

Then Mia sprinkled the magic confetti into the air. The confetti floated down, twinkling and spinning.

Jack and Mia watched, their eyes wide. The confetti landed on the table, the chairs, and even on their noses! They both laughed and laughed.

Chapter 3: The Best New Year's Party

That night, the big room was so bright and happy. Ribbons and decorations hung everywhere. The magic confetti sparkled on the tables.

Grown-ups and kids came in, smiling and saying, “Happy New Year!” There was music and silly dancing. Mia and Jack played snowball toss and made new friends. Everyone laughed and giggled, just like they wished.

Mia's mom came over and hugged her. “You made this the best party ever, Mia,” she said.

Jack's dad ruffled his hair. “You too, Jack! Did you two find the secret?”

Mia and Jack nodded and grinned.

“I think the magic worked,” whispered Jack.

Mia whispered back, “I think the magic was us, and our wish.”

At midnight, everyone counted down, “Ten! Nine! Eight!...” all the way to “Happy New Year!” Hugs and cheers and more giggles filled the room.

Jack looked at Mia. “Let's make a wish every New Year.”

Mia smiled. “Yes! And every wish will be full of giggles.”

Jack and Mia hugged. The snow sparkled outside, and inside, everyone felt warm, happy, and loved.
