Soft snow covered the forest and made everything quiet and sparkly. Fox peeked out from his den, his nose wiggling in the chilly air. “Today is New Year's Eve!” he whispered with a happy wiggle. Fox was excited. He loved the New Year. It meant shiny stars, giggles with friends, and maybe, just maybe, a wish or two.
Fox had a special plan this year. He wanted to write his New Year's resolutions. He found his favorite stick and a smooth patch of snow. “What should I wish for?” Fox wondered, tapping his paw. He thought and thought, then smiled. “Maybe I can get better at jumping!” He wrote with his stick: Jump high!
Just then, Rabbit hopped by. “What are you doing, Fox?” Rabbit asked, his ears flopping.
“I'm making resolutions!” said Fox. “Do you want to make one, too?”
Rabbit's eyes twinkled. “Yes! I want to dig the biggest tunnel ever.” Fox grinned and wrote it in the snow: Dig a big tunnel!
Squirrel scampered over, tail fluffy and warm. “Can I make a resolution?” she chirped.
Fox nodded. “Of course! What will yours be?”
Squirrel thought hard. “I want to find the yummiest acorn.” Fox wrote: Find a yummy acorn!
They all looked at the snow. The resolutions looked fun and friendly. Fox felt proud. But then he paused. “What if I can't jump very high?” he wondered aloud.
Rabbit patted Fox gently. “That's okay! We can practice together.”
Squirrel nodded. “And if you fall, we'll help you up.”
Fox's heart felt warm. He realized that making resolutions wasn't about being perfect. It was about trying new things and learning with friends.
The sky turned pink and purple as the sun went to sleep. Fox and his friends made a little fire. They shared crunchy snacks, sang silly songs, and watched the stars twinkle in the night.
“Let's say our resolutions out loud,” Fox said with a giggle. They did, giggling and cheering for each other. The forest echoed with laughter and hope.
When midnight came, Fox closed his eyes and whispered, “Happy New Year!” His friends joined him, their voices soft and bright.
Fox felt brave and curious. Tomorrow, he would try to jump high. Rabbit would dig and Squirrel would search for her special acorn. They would help each other, every step of the way.
As the moon shone bright above, Fox curled up in his den. He felt cozy, happy, and ready for a wonderful new year—with friends, fun, and lots of little surprises.
