Chapter 1: The Big New Year Plan
“Milo, are you awake?” whispered Mia, peeking into her little brother's room.
Milo opened one sleepy eye. “I am awake, Mia. Is it morning?”
Mia giggled. “No, silly! It's almost New Year's Eve! Tonight is the night. Tonight is the last night of the year!”
Milo sat up. “The last night? Where did the other nights go?”
Mia laughed again. “They went with the old year! Tonight, we get a whole new year. We have to celebrate! I want to make a big surprise for Mommy and Daddy.”
Milo clapped his hands. “A big surprise? What kind of surprise?”
Mia tiptoed closer. “A party! A family party! With hats and songs and snacks and maybe a little dance.”
Milo's eyes grew big. “Can we have balloons too? And maybe some apple juice?”
“Yes! Balloons and apple juice and lots of fun,” said Mia, nodding. “But shhh, it's a secret. We have to make it special. Are you my helper?”
Milo jumped out of bed and bounced up and down. “I am your helper! I am the best helper!”
Mia grinned. “Let's start our plan. First, we need hats. Next, we need snacks. And then, we need a song!”
Milo nodded. “Hats, snacks, and a song. I can help with snacks. I am good with snacks.”
Mia smiled. “Come on, helper. Let's get to work.”
Chapter 2: The Party Helpers
Mia and Milo tiptoed to the kitchen. The house was quiet. Outside, they could hear neighbors talking and laughing, getting ready for the big night.
“Let's make a banner,” whispered Mia. She grabbed some paper and crayons.
Milo wanted to help. “I can draw stars! Stars for the new year!”
Mia drew a big number ‘1' and a big number ‘2'. “Happy New Year!” she wrote in big letters.
“Happy new ear!” Milo said, giggling. “New ear!”
Mia giggled too. “Yes! Happy new ears for everyone!”
Suddenly, Milo looked at the clock. “Is it almost night now?”
Mia shook her head. “Not yet. We still have time. Let's make hats.”
They made two silly hats, one with zigzag lines and one with big, round spots.
Milo put his hat on. “Do I look like a party?” he asked.
Mia laughed. “You look like the biggest, silliest party ever!”
Just then, Mommy peeked in. “What are you two up to?”
Mia put her finger to her lips. “Shhh, Mommy! It's a secret party. No peeking!”
Mommy smiled and walked away.
Mia whispered, “Now for snacks!”
Milo found some cookies and two little cups. “Apple juice?” he asked.
Mia nodded. “Yes, please! And some crackers.”
They set the table with snacks, hats, and their banner.
Milo looked around. “Is it time for the party yet?”
Mia listened. Outside, the neighbors were singing and laughing. The sky was getting dark.
“Almost,” Mia whispered. “One more thing—we need a song!”
Milo clapped. “I know a song! ‘Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star!'”
Mia nodded. “That's perfect! And we can dance.”
Chapter 3: The Silly Family Party
As the sky got darker, Mommy and Daddy came into the kitchen.
“Surprise!” shouted Mia and Milo. “Happy New Year!”
Mommy smiled wide. “Oh, what a wonderful party!”
Daddy put on a silly hat. “Do I look like a party, too?”
Mia nodded. “You look like the silliest Daddy ever!”
They all sat down together. They ate cookies and crackers. They drank apple juice. They wore silly hats and giggled.
Outside, the neighbors counted, “Ten! Nine! Eight!”
Mia whispered, “It's almost time—get ready!”
Milo squeezed her hand. “I'm ready!”
They all counted together, “Five! Four! Three! Two! One! Happy New Year!”
Everyone cheered. Outside, the neighbors cheered too. Fireworks went “pop!” in the sky.
Mia sang, “Twinkle, twinkle, little star…” Everyone sang along. Milo did a silly dance, and everyone laughed.
Mommy hugged Mia and Milo. “Thank you for the best surprise, my sweet party planners.”
Daddy hugged them too. “This is the happiest New Year's Eve ever!”
Mia yawned. Milo yawned. They snuggled close.
Milo whispered, “Next year, can we do this again?”
Mia nodded. “Yes. Every New Year, we have a party. Hats, snacks, songs, and lots of love.”
Milo smiled. “Happy new ear, Mia.”
Mia giggled. “Happy new ear, Milo.”
And together, snuggled up, they watched the fireworks sparkle in the sky, feeling happy, safe, and ready for a brand new year.
