Bear yawned a big, soft yawn. The moon was up. The forest was quiet. It was time for bed.
Bear had one cozy bed, one pillow, and one blue blanket. He patted them. “Bed,” said Bear. “Pillow,” said Bear. “Blanket,” said Bear.
But the blanket was not on the bed.
Bear looked left. He looked right. He looked up. He looked down. “Blanket?” said Bear.
A tiny frog sat on a log with the blue blanket on his head like a hat. The frog blinked. “Ribbit,” said Frog.
Bear giggled. “Silly hat,” said Bear.
Frog hopped. The blanket slid. Plop! It covered a snail like a little tent.
Snail went, “Mmm,” and kept moving, slow, slow. The tent moved too. It looked funny.
Bear followed. “Blanket, blanket,” said Bear. “Come back, blanket.”
A sleepy owl fluffed his feathers. The blanket slipped off the snail and went whoosh onto Owl's wings. Owl waved them. Whoosh, whoosh. It looked like a blue bird.
Owl smiled. “Hoo,” said Owl. “Soft,” said Owl.
Bear laughed a quiet laugh. “That is my blanket,” said Bear.
Owl gave a gentle flap. The blanket floated down, down, down… right onto a pile of leaves.
The leaves wriggled.
Out popped a small hedgehog, round as a bun, with the blanket wrapped like a cape. “Sniff,” said Hedgehog. “Cape,” said Hedgehog.
Bear clapped his paws, soft clap, soft clap. “Nice cape,” said Bear. “Now bed,” said Bear.
Hedgehog nodded and rolled the blanket up, then rolled it to Bear like a little blue wheel. Roll, roll, roll. It bumped Bear's toes. Boop.
“Thank you,” said Bear.
Bear went back to his bed. He put the blanket on. He put the pillow just right. He lay down with a happy sigh.
Frog hopped near the bed. Snail stopped to rest. Owl perched close. Hedgehog sat by the leaves. All were quiet.
Bear's eyes got slow. His paws got heavy. The blue blanket felt warm, warm, warm.
He whispered, “Good night,” and the forest whispered back, “Good night.”
A gentle heart and kind sharing help everyone rest safe and snug.
