Pip was a little penguin in blue pajamas. He waddled to bed with a soft “plop, plop, plop.”
In his room, he saw a round thing on his pillow. Pip blinked. “Hello, egg,” he said.
The round thing blinked back. It was not an egg. It was a marshmallow!
Pip giggled. “Silly pillow snack!” he said. He put it on a plate.
Then Pip saw two long things under his blanket. “Oh! Two worms!” he said.
He peeked. They were not worms. They were his warm socks!
Pip laughed. “Hello, feet hats,” he said, and he pulled them on.
Next he heard a tiny “ting!” from his cup. Pip looked. “A bell?” he said.
It was not a bell. It was an ice cube, tapping the cup.
Pip said, “Tap-tap, little cube,” and he sipped. “Mmm.”
Pip climbed in. His blanket felt like a soft cloud. He hugged his teddy fish.
A small breeze made the curtain wave. Pip waved back. “Good night, curtain,” he said.
The room was cozy. The moon made a quiet silver spot on the floor. Pip's eyes grew heavy. His breaths went slow, like soft little puffs, and his smile stayed warm.
In a sleepy voice Pip said, “Good night, socks. Good night, marshmallow. Good night, tap-tap cube.”
A gentle smile and a calm heart help bedtime feel easy.
