Mia is two. Mia has curly hair. Mia has a big brother, Max.
It is snack time. On the table: one red cup and one blue cup.
“I want red!” says Mia.
“I want red!” says Max.
Uh-oh. Mia holds the red cup. Max holds the red cup too. Tug, tug.
Mom smiles. “Easy, easy.”
Mia makes a tiny pout. “Mine.”
Max makes a tiny pout. “Mine.”
Then—plop! The cup slips. It lands on the table. No spill. Just a soft “plop.”
Mia blinks. Max blinks. Then they both giggle.
Mom says, “Let's play Cup Switch!”
She puts crackers in the red cup. “Crunch-crunch!”
She puts banana in the blue cup. “Mush-mush!”
“Red is crunchy!” says Max.
“Blue is mushy!” says Mia.
“Switch!” says Mom. “Hop!”
Mia slides the blue cup to Max. “Shhht!”
Max slides the red cup to Mia. “Shhht!”
They switch again. “Hop! Hop!”
Mia laughs. “Again!”
Max laughs. “Again!”
Soon both cups are in silly places: on heads, on elbows, on tummies. “Boop! Boop!”
Mia leans on Max. Max pats Mia. Snack time feels warm and sweet.
