Tom is two.
Tom has a big sister, Mia.
Mia is four.
They sit on the rug.
Blocks are in a big pile.
Red blocks.
Blue blocks.
Yellow blocks.
Tom takes a red block.
Mia takes a blue block.
Tom smiles.
“I make a tall tower!” he says.
Mia claps. “Me too! I make a taller tower!”
Tom looks at her.
He blinks.
“Tall,” he says. “Very tall.”
They build.
Tap, tap, tap.
Blocks go up.
One, two, three, four, five.
Tom's tower goes, “Wobble wobble.”
Mia's tower goes, “Wiggle wiggle.”
Tom points.
“Mine,” he says.
“Mine,” Mia says.
They look at each other.
They both hold one red block.
Tom pulls, “Uuuh!”
Mia pulls, “Eeeh!”
The red block pops out.
“Boing!”
Tom falls on his diaper.
Plop!
He looks at his feet.
His socks point up.
He makes a big “O” with his mouth.
Mia looks.
Mia giggles.
“Hee hee hee!”
Tom hears her giggle.
Tom giggles too.
“Ha ha ha!”
The towers shake.
“Wobble wobble… crash!”
Blocks fall all over.
One block rolls on Tom's belly.
“Boop!”
Tom laughs louder.
“It tickle!” he says.
Mia puts a block on her head.
“Look, Tom,” she says.
“I am Block Mia!”
She walks slow.
Step, step.
The block falls.
“Clonk!” on the rug.
Tom claps.
“Again!” he says.
Now Tom puts a block on his head.
He makes a funny face.
Lips out.
Eyes big.
Mia claps.
“Block Tom!” she says.
Tom steps, “Step, step.”
The block falls.
“Plonk!”
They both laugh.
Hee hee!
Ha ha!
Mom comes in.
She smiles.
“What is all this?” she says.
Tom points.
“Funny blocks!” he says.
Mia nods.
“First we fight,” she says, “then we laugh.”
Mom sits on the rug.
She hugs them both.
Warm, soft hugs.
They build one big tower.
Together.
Slow and happy.
Tap, tap, tap.
No pull.
No push.
Just giggle, giggle.
The tower is tall and silly.
Tom and Mia look at it.
They smile the same big smile.
Tom says, “We share.”
Mia says, “We play.”
They both say, “We laugh!”
Being together is even more fun when we share, help, and laugh.
