A kind smiling pirate with a round face, short gray beard and wide black hat kneels on textured golden sand opening a small wooden box and finding a red scarf and a small blue toy boat; an ~8-year-old boy with short brown hair and a striped shirt stands near the shore holding a blue toy boat and admiring the pirate, a ~7-year-old girl with blond pigtails in a yellow dress claps happily on the low deck of a small anchored wooden boat to the left, a small red-orange crab scuttles near the pirate’s boot, tiny lush island with short green grass, rounded gray rocks, calm turquoise sea with small white waves, light blue sky and soft yellow sun, warm safe atmosphere, bright colors, simple rounded shapes and visible crayon texture. report a problem with this image

Old Tom stands on the deck. He is a kind pirate. He has a big hat and a warm grin. The sun is bright. The sea is blue. The ship rocks soft. Tom sings a short song. The crew laughs.

A small wave taps the bow. A gull flies near. Tom points. "Look," he said. The boy on deck waves. The girl claps. All are calm.

Tom has a map. The map has a red dot. The red dot is on a small isle. Tom smiles. "We go now," he said. The crew cheers. They pull the sail. The boat runs. Tom steers with care. The wind is like a friend.

At noon, dark clouds come. The sky looks odd. The crew frowns. Tom looks up. He makes a plan. "We hide," he said. They move the sail. They tie the rope. The ship stays safe. Rain comes. It is soft rain. Tom hums. The crew sings a small tune. The rain stops fast. The sun comes back. All clap hands.

They see the isle. It is small and green. Tom jumps from ship. He holds the rope. He walks on sand. A crab taps his boot. Tom laughs. "Hi," he said. The crab crawls away. Tom finds a rock. Under the rock is a box. The box is not big. Tom lifts the lid. Inside is a warm scarf and a small toy boat. The scarf is red. The toy boat is blue. Tom smiles wide.

Tom hugs the toy boat. He wraps the scarf safe. The crew hugs Tom. They share a sweet cake. No one is sad. Tom shares the toy with the boy. Tom ties the scarf on the mast as a flag. The ship looks happy as it sails home.

At dusk, the stars blink. Tom points to the stars. "We did good," he said. The crew nods. They sing a soft song. All sleep safe on the ship.

A kind heart and a brave hand can make a small day big.
