Little Ben wakes up. The leaves are orange. The leaves are red. "Look, Mama!" Ben says. Mama smiles. "It's autumn, Ben," she says.
Ben wears his cozy sweater. It's soft. It's warm. "Ready for Grandma's house?" Mama asks. Ben nods. He is happy.
At Grandma's house, there is a big table. It is full of apples. Apples are red. Apples are green. Ben touches an apple. "Smooth," he says.
"Let's make pie!" Grandma says. Ben helps. He washes apples. He feels the water. It's cold. "Splash!" Ben giggles.
Grandpa comes in. "Time for a walk!" he says. Ben puts on his boots. They are big. They are yellow. "Stomp, stomp!" Ben laughs.
Outside, the wind is cool. Leaves dance. "Look, Grandpa!" Ben says. Leaves swirl around them. "Swish, swish," the leaves sing.
Ben sees a pumpkin. It is big. It is round. "Can we carve it?" Ben asks. Grandpa nods. Grandpa cuts. Ben scoops. "Squishy," Ben says.
Back inside, the pie is ready. It smells sweet. It smells yummy. "Time to eat," Grandma says. Ben takes a bite. "Mmm, good!" Ben says.
The family sits together. They laugh. They talk. Ben feels happy. Ben feels loved. Autumn is fun. Autumn is warm.
Mama hugs Ben. "Sleepy time now," she says. Ben yawns. "Goodnight, leaves. Goodnight, apples. Goodnight, autumn," Ben whispers.
Ben closes his eyes. He dreams of orange leaves. He dreams of red apples. Autumn is a special time. Ben smiles in his sleep.
