Sunny the little turtle wakes up under the soft leaves. Sunlight dances on her green shell. She blinks and smiles. The pond is quiet. Birds sing in the tall grass. The water is cool and clear.
Sunny likes to swim. She moves slowly, making tiny ripples. In the water, she sees a floating leaf. She watches it spin and twirl. Then she finds a shiny bottle cap. Sunny looks at it. It does not belong in the pond. She wonders, “What can I do?”
Sunny pushes the cap to the shore. She nudges it onto the sand, far from the water. “The pond will feel better now,” she says softly. Sunny sees her friend, Pebble the frog. Pebble jumps over. “Hello, Sunny! What are you doing?” Pebble asks.
“I found a shiny cap. I put it away,” Sunny says.
Pebble smiles. “Thank you, Sunny! The pond is happy.”
Sunny feels happy too. She looks at the trees and listens to the soft wind. The water sparkles. She swims with Pebble. Fish dart under them, safe and bright.
Sunny thinks, “Every small help is good for the pond.” She rests in the warm sun. The day is gentle and green.
