Sam, Eli, and Max wake up to a bright sky. They are almost three. They wear small hats and big smiles. Today they go to the park with their mom.
The grass is cool on their toes. The boys hear birds. They smell wet soil. "Look," says Sam. He points at a paper by the bench. Eli picks it up. Max smiles and puts it in the bin. The bin is green. The boys clap.
They walk to the tree. Tiny ants walk on a log. Max crouches down. He blows the log. The ants keep walking. The boys laugh. A ladybug lands on Sam's hand. Sam watches it crawl. The boys are quiet. They watch the bug move.
Mom shows them a small pot. "Plant a seed," she says. Eli drops a seed in the soil. Max pats the soil with his little hands. Sam pours a little water. The soil drinks the water. The boys feel the cool mud on their palms. It smells like rain.
A sprinkler sprays near the flowers. The boys jump over a wet patch. They wipe their feet on the grass. Mom wipes their cheeks. "Good job," she says. "You help the plants." The boys grin.
On the way home, they carry a small bag. They put plastic in the bag for the right bin. They turn off a tap that drips. The drip stops with a tiny sound. The boys listen. The park is calm again.
At home, they put their small cup in the sink. They wash it and leave it to dry. At bedtime, they draw a green leaf. They whisper to the leaf. They feel happy and calm.
Small hands do little things. Small things help the Earth.
