A 2-year-old boy, Max, with messy brown hair and a big joyful smile, is sitting on the green grass of the park, holding a red toy car in his small hands. Next to him is a 2-year-old girl, Lily, with braided blonde hair and sparkling eyes, smiling while holding a soft, fluffy teddy bear. Little Max wakes up. The sun is bright. Max smiles. “Good morning, Mama!” says Max. Mama hugs Max. “Good morning, Max,” says Mama.

Max eats his breakfast. He has a spoon. He eats his cereal. Crunch, crunch, yum! Mama smiles. “You eat so well, Max,” Mama says.

After breakfast, Max puts on his shoes. Mama helps. “One shoe, two shoes,” says Mama. Max giggles. He likes his shoes.

Max goes to the park with Mama. The grass is green. The sky is blue. Max sees birds. “Tweet, tweet!” says Max. Mama laughs.

At the park, Max sees a little girl. She sits on a red blanket. She has a teddy bear. Max looks at Mama. Mama smiles. “You can say hello,” says Mama.

Max walks to the little girl. “Hello,” says Max. The little girl smiles. “Hello,” she says. “I am Lily.” Max smiles. “I am Max,” he says.

Max sits next to Lily. Lily holds out her teddy bear. “Bear wants a friend,” says Lily. Max nods. He gives a toy car to Lily. “Car wants a friend too,” says Max.

Max and Lily play together. They roll the car. They hug the teddy bear. Max laughs. Lily laughs. “Fun!” says Max. “Yes, fun!” says Lily.

Suddenly, the car goes under the bench. Lily looks sad. “Uh-oh,” says Lily. Max sees Lily's face. Max says, “It is okay, Lily. I will help.” Max crawls under the bench. He finds the car. “Here is car!” says Max. Lily claps her hands. “Thank you, Max!” says Lily.

Max and Lily keep playing. They share snacks. “Yummy!” says Max. “Yummy!” says Lily. Mama and Lily's mama smile.

It is time to go home. “Bye, Lily,” says Max. Lily hugs Max. “Bye, Max,” says Lily.

In the car, Max feels happy. Max says, “Friends help, friends share, friends play.” Mama smiles. “Yes, Max. Friends are special. Max smiles. He loves friends.
