Little Bear wakes up. Little Bear looks outside. It is raining. Drip, drop, drip. Little Bear wants to play outside. Little Bear feels sad.
“Mama, I feel sad,” says Little Bear.
Mama Bear gives Little Bear a big, warm hug. “It is okay to feel sad,” says Mama Bear.
Little Bear sits by the window. Raindrops slide down the glass. Little Bear's nose feels cold. Little Bear's eyes feel heavy. “I want to run and jump,” says Little Bear.
Mama Bear smiles. “Let's paint a picture,” says Mama Bear.
Little Bear paints with blue. Swish, swish, swish. Little Bear paints with yellow. Dot, dot, dot.
Little Bear says, “I feel a little better now.”
Mama Bear nods. “Sometimes, talking helps,” she says.
Little Bear tells Mama Bear, “The rain made me sad.”
Mama Bear listens. Mama Bear holds Little Bear's paw.
Little Bear thinks. “Can we read my favorite book?” asks Little Bear.
Mama Bear says, “Yes, we can.” They curl up together. Page by page, they read. Little Bear smiles a little. Mama Bear smiles too.
The rain goes drip, drop, drip. Little Bear watches. “I feel soft and warm now,” says Little Bear.
Mama Bear says, “Feelings come and go. Sadness is here now, but it can go away too.”
Little Bear nods. “When I feel sad, I can talk. I can paint. I can cuddle. I can read.”
Mama Bear kisses Little Bear's nose. “You are safe. You are loved.”
Little Bear snuggles close. Little Bear feels calm. Little Bear feels loved. The rain keeps falling. Drip, drop, drip. But Little Bear is not sad anymore.
