A 4-year-old girl with big sparkling brown eyes and curly hair is lying in her bed. She has a worried yet determined expression, holding her teddy bear, Teddy, against her chest. Teddy is a brown bear with a red bow around its neck, looking comforting. Her mother, a gentle woman in her 30s, sits on the edge of the bed with a soothing smile. She has long, smooth hair and is wearing light blue pajamas. She affectionately looks at her daughter, ready to sing her a lullaby. The room is cozy, with pastel pink walls and golden stars stuck to the ceiling. A small nightlight emits a soft yellow glow, casting shadows on the walls. The main situation shows the little girl, though slightly scared of the dark, feeling comforted by her mother's presence and her teddy bear. She is ready to face her fears, with a mix of worry and courage on her face. report a problem with this image

Chapter 1: Emily's Bedtime

"Mommy, can you stay with me a little longer?" whispered Emily. She was snuggled under her soft pink blanket. Her room was quiet. The little night lamp made a tiny glow on her wall.

Mom smiled and sat next to her. "Of course, Emily," she said gently. "Would you like to hear a story before you sleep?"

Emily nodded. She held her teddy bear close. "Yes, please. But can you leave the door open? I feel safe when I see the light."

Mom nodded. "The door will stay open, sweetheart. And Teddy will watch over you, too."

Emily listened as Mom told a story about a brave bunny. Emily yawned. She closed her eyes. But when Mom kissed her goodnight and the room got darker, Emily opened her eyes again.

"Mommy, I don't like when it gets dark," Emily whispered.

Mom hugged her softly. "It's okay to feel a little scared. The dark can feel big and quiet. But you are safe. I'm right here, and you have Teddy and your night lamp."

Emily nodded slowly. She squeezed Teddy. "Can you sing to me?"

Mom sang a soft sleepy song. Emily listened. Her eyes felt heavy. But then, a shadow moved on the wall. Emily sat up.

"Mommy, what is that shadow?" she asked, her voice small.

Mom looked at the shadow. "That is just your teddy's shadow, Emily. Shadows are just shapes from things in your room. They cannot hurt you."

Emily looked at Teddy. She looked at the shadow. "Teddy is making the shadow? Not a monster?"

Mom smiled. "Not a monster. Only Teddy."

Emily smiled a little. She lay down again.

Chapter 2: A Walk in the Dark

In the middle of the night, Emily woke up. She needed to go to the bathroom. The hallway was dark. She felt her heart thump.

She called softly, "Mommy?" But Mommy did not answer. Emily looked at her night lamp. It glowed softly. Teddy was with her.

"I am brave. I am safe," Emily whispered. She remembered what Mom said. "Shadows are just shapes."

Emily took Teddy's paw. "Come on, Teddy. Let's go together." She stood up. She opened her door. The hallway was dark, but a little light came from the bathroom.

"Step by step," Emily said. "One foot, then the other." She walked down the hallway, holding Teddy close. The shadows on the wall did not move. They just stayed still.

Emily walked into the bathroom. She turned on the light. "See, Teddy? We did it. We are safe."

When she finished, she walked back to her room. "Step by step," she said again.

She climbed into bed and pulled Teddy close. Her heart felt calm. She could hear Mommy and Daddy talking softly in their room.

Emily smiled. "I did it, Teddy. I walked in the dark all by myself. I was brave."

She looked at the shadows. Now, they looked like funny shapes. She giggled. "Goodnight, shadows. Goodnight, Teddy."

Her eyes closed. Emily felt safe and warm. She knew she could be brave, even when it was dark.
