Captain Milo buckled his seat belt. He tapped three big buttons: green, blue, green. The small ship hummed like a happy fridge.
“Ready,” he said.
A round screen showed Space: dark, calm, and full of tiny lights. Milo looked at his list.
“Air: good. Fuel: good. Snack: good,” he said, and he smiled.
The ship went up, up, up. Milo held the smooth control stick. The auto pilot kept the ship straight.
A soft voice said, “Ping.”
“Oh,” Milo said. “A tiny dust bit on the window.”
He pressed a clear-wash button. Warm mist went pshh. The window went shiny again.
“Thank you,” Milo said.
The voice said, “You are welcome.”
Soon a small moon came close. It was pale and quiet. Milo turned on the lamp and the slow spin light.
“Speed low,” he said. “Hands calm.”
He guided the ship to a flat pad. The legs touched: tap, tap, tap.
“Landed,” he said.
He put on his round helmet. He opened the door. A little flag came out with him. He took one slow step, then another.
The moon dust made a funny poof. Milo laughed. “Poof shoes!”
He looked up. Earth was a blue ball. He waved.
Then he went back in. He drank water. He ate one soft cookie. He wrote one word on his pad: “Home.”
He flew back, smooth and safe.
