The Secret Club

Benny was a small, round penguin with very wobbly feet. He was the youngest in his penguin family. His big sister, Penny, had the shiniest beak, and his older brother, Pete, was always making silly faces.

One chilly morning, Benny said, “Let's make a secret club!”

Penny flapped her wings. “Yes! A secret penguin club!”

Pete waddled in a circle. “What's our first rule?”

Benny thought hard. “Rule number one: you must wear a silly hat!”

Penny giggled. “But we don't have hats!”

Pete put a sea shell on his head. “Now I do!”

Benny found a bit of seaweed. He put it on his head. “Me too!”

Penny put a small pebble on her head. “I'm ready!”

Benny grinned. “Rule number two: to join the club, you must waddle backwards and say, ‘Penguins love pink pickles!'”

Pete laughed so hard he slid on his belly. “Penguins love pink pickles! Penguins love pink pickles!”

Penny waddled backwards and said, “Penguins love pink pickles!” She fell over and laughed.

Benny tried, but he wobbled and his seaweed fell off. Everyone giggled.

A Silly Club Problem

They made more silly rules. Rule three: everyone must sing like a seagull. Rule four: you must clap your wings three times and spin in a circle.

Suddenly, Pete shouted, “Oh no! My shell hat is gone!”

Penny gasped. “My pebble hat is gone too! Where did they go?”

Benny looked around. “Maybe they fell in the snow?”

The three penguin siblings searched. They waddled left. They waddled right. They looked under big rocks. They looked behind little ice blocks.

Pete said, “We need to work together!”

Penny nodded. “Let's look for shiny things together.

Benny said, “I will look high. You look low!”

They waddled together. They peeked and peeked. At last, Benny found Pete's shell under a snowy bush.

“Here's your shell, Pete!” Benny cheered.

Penny found her pebble by a wiggly fish hole. “Here's my pebble! Thank you, Benny, thank you, Pete!”

They all put their silly hats back on.

Pete said, “The best club is a club with my brother and sister.”

Penny hugged Benny and Pete with her wings. “Let's make a new rule! Rule number five: always help your club friends.”

Benny smiled. “Best rule ever!”

And together, they danced their silly club dance, laughing and waddling in the snow.
