Leo, a 4-year-old boy with messy blonde hair and round glasses, wearing a blue t-shirt and yellow shorts, stands to the left of Mia, making a funny face. Noor, a 4-year-old girl with braided black hair and bright eyes, wearing a green skirt and a purple t-shirt, is to the right of Mia, holding a red plastic cup like a megaphone. Ben, a 4-year-old boy with brown hair and a big smile, is in a blue wheelchair next to Mia, making a small zebra toy dance near his knee. The setting is a sunny garden filled with colorful flowers and green grass, with a large shady tree in the background and a small wicker basket on a checkered blanket. The main scene shows the four friends gathered on the blanket, laughing and taking a photo together, surrounded by sun-shaped cookies, all cheerful with their faces lit up by the sun, capturing a moment of joy and friendship. report a problem with this image

Chapter One

The sun is warm and soft. Four friends meet in the yard. Mia, Leo, Noor, and Ben are four years old. Ben sits in his blue wheelchair. It is just part of him. They all hold a little blanket and a small basket.

Mia holds a shiny toy camera. She wants a perfect photo. She wants a picture to remember today. "Say cheese!" she says. She clicks the pretend button. Click! Click!

Leo makes a big cheese face. His cheeks puff up. Noor sticks out her tongue playfully. Ben rolls closer to the group. He laughs a tiny laugh. The camera is small and pretend, but their wish is big.

Mia says, "We need a real picture." She looks thoughtful. The friends clap. They like the idea. They plan a perfect pose. They arrange the blanket and the basket. They choose the sunniest spot.

Chapter Two

Noor finds two plastic cups. They are red and blue. She threads a string through them. "Talkies!" she says with a grin. She taps the cup. "Hello!" she sings into it. The sound is funny. "Boing-boing," Leo says, and he giggles.

Now the cups work as talkies. One friend listens, the other speaks. They whisper secrets and silly songs. The cups are magic talkers. They squeak and hum and sound like birds.

Mia holds the shiny camera again. She wants the perfect picture. "We must be serious," she says. She tilts the camera with a tiny pretend lens. "No funny faces," she warns in a mock-serious voice.

Leo hears that and frowns. Then he scrunches his face. "I will be straight," he says, which is not so straight. Noor wiggles her toes. Ben makes his zebra toy dance near his knee. The friends all wiggle.

A small tiff begins. Mia taps her foot. Leo puts his hands on his hips. Noor pouts. Ben whispers into the cup, "Picture time, please." The words come out like a squeaky song. The friends stop.

They have a little grumble. It is very tiny and quick. No long fuss. They cross their arms for one deep breath. The sun is soft. A bird hops by. The mood melts.

Mia pouts for a moment. Then she remembers the talkies. She smiles. "Tell a joke," she says to Noor. Noor nods and leans into the cup. "Why did the cookie go to the doctor?" she says. The cup makes it sound like a funny trumpet.

The friends lean in. Ben answers, "Because it felt crumby!" The cups echo, and all four of them burst out laughing. Ha-ha! The laugh is big and warm. It shakes their tummies.

Mia drops her serious face. She laughs so much that the camera almost slips. Leo catches it. "Careful!" he says, but he laughs too. Noor uses the blue cup like a megaphone. "Say silly!" she shouts, and the string goes boing.

They try different poses. They try big smiles and tiny smiles. They try surprise faces, sleepy faces, and giggle faces. Each face makes them laugh more. The little squabble turns into a game of funny faces.

Mia finally steadies the camera. She listens to the cups. Ben says, "Ready?" in a small loud whisper. The friends squeeze together on the blanket. Their shoulders touch. The camera clicks—click!

They look at the pretend camera's screen. The picture is full of giggles and bright sun. It is not perfect like a grown-up photo. It is even better. Their laughter lives in the picture.

Chapter Three

After the photo, they share cookies. Mia opens the basket. Inside are round cookies with sparkles. They are not fancy. They smell like warm sugar and fun.

They make one more silly plan. "Recipe," Mia says. She writes it down on a small leaf. "We will remember," she says. The friends agree. They want to bake more cookies at home. They clap with happy hands.

No one feels left out. Ben rolls his wheelchair close. He reaches a cookie with ease. Everyone helps pass the cups and cookies. The yard is full of small, bright noises: munch, crunch, giggle.

Sun moves slowly across the sky. The day feels calm. They sit close on the blanket. The cups rest beside them like little ears. They hum a soft song together. The picture is safe in Mia's pocket. It keeps the warm laugh.

Mia presses the pretend camera one more time. Click! The sound is gentle. They all sigh a happy sigh. The little fight is gone. Only soft smiles remain.

They fold the blanket slowly. They tuck the cups into the basket. They hold hands for a quick squeeze. "We did it," Noor says. "We made a perfect memory," Ben adds.

They walk home together, small feet tapping. The house door opens, and the kitchen smells like dinner. The recipe on the leaf goes on the fridge. It is a promise of more laughter.
