In a cosy, twisty village where flowers danced and clouds wore hats, there lived a little wizard named Pip. Pip was only three, but he loved magic more than mashed potatoes. He wore big blue boots, a starry hat, and a cloak that sometimes giggled when the wind blew.
One sunny morning, Pip woke up with a sparkly sneeze. “Achoo! Achoo! Achoo!” His hat flipped over his eyes, and his nose tickled. “Today feels special,” Pip said, bouncing out of bed. “I want to do something magical!”
Pip skipped to the kitchen, where his cat Snuggles was snacking on a spoon. Snuggles was round and fluffy, with a twirly tail and whiskers that glowed pink when she purred. “Hello, Snuggles!” said Pip. “Do you want to see a magic trick?”
Snuggles purred, “Meow-wow!”
Pip rummaged through his toy box. He found a deck of shiny, wobbly cards. Some cards had ducks, some had socks, and one had a dancing banana. “Let's do a card trick!” Pip said, waving the cards in the air.
Pip set the cards on the table. He tried to shuffle them. Some cards flew up. Some cards slid down. One card flapped away and landed on Pip's head. Pip giggled. Snuggles giggled too, but it sounded more like, “Purr-giggle.”
Pip pointed to the cards. “Pick a card, Snuggles!” Snuggles tapped a card with her nose. It was the dancing banana. “Ooo!” said Pip. “Good choice!”
Pip tried to remember how to do the trick. He closed his eyes and thought. “Say the magic words, Pip,” whispered his cloak, which was very helpful.
“Bibbity-bobbity, bananas and cheese, make this card do as I please!” Pip waved his wand (which was actually a spoon). The card wobbled. It spun. It flopped over and turned into… a real banana!
The banana danced on the table. It wiggled and giggled and sang, “Ba-na-na-na-na!” Snuggles clapped her paws. Pip laughed so hard he nearly fell off his chair.
“Oh, dear!” Pip chuckled. “I guess that's magic for you!”
The banana jumped off the table and slipped onto the floor. It skidded and twirled all the way to the living room. Pip and Snuggles ran after it. “Wait, banana!” Pip called. But the banana was feeling very silly.
The banana spun around the armchair. It bounced on the couch. It did a little jig on the rug. Pip tried to catch it, but the banana was too slippery. Snuggles tried too, but she slid and landed in the laundry basket. “Meow-hee-hee!” she laughed.
Pip stopped and thought. “Maybe the banana wants to play,” he said. Pip clapped his hands. “Banana, do you like games?”
The banana nodded (as much as bananas can). It bounced up and down. “Let's play hide and seek!” said Pip.
Pip closed his eyes and counted, “One… two… three… four…” The banana giggled and hid behind the big green plant. Pip peeked and found the banana right away. “There you are!” Pip cheered.
“Again!” sang the banana.
They played again and again. Each time, the banana hid in a silly spot: under the pillow, behind the curtain, and once inside Pip's boot! Every time Pip found the banana, they both cheered, “Hooray!”
After a while, Pip sat down, feeling happy and a little tired. The banana wiggled onto his lap. Snuggles curled around his feet, still giggling. “Magic is fun when everyone plays,” Pip said.
But then, something odd happened. The banana began to yawn. “Ba-na-na-na…” it sang sleepily. Pip remembered that magic sometimes wears off when it's nap time.
Pip smiled and patted the banana. “Thank you for playing, banana. You're the best magic trick ever.”
The banana wriggled and turned back into a card. Pip picked it up and waved it at Snuggles. “Look, back to a card!”
Snuggles purred and rubbed her nose on Pip's cheek. Pip felt calm and cosy. The cards were all back in the deck, and the room was tidy again. Pip's cloak gave him a gentle hug.
Pip looked at Snuggles. “That was a silly adventure,” Pip said.
Snuggles nodded. “Meow-yes!”
Pip packed up the cards and put them away. He took off his hat and cloak and wiggled his toes in his big blue boots. The sun shone through the window, making rainbow shapes on the floor.
Pip felt happy and peaceful. Magic was wonderful, but sometimes it was nice to just sit quietly with a friend. Pip and Snuggles cuddled on the couch, listening to the gentle giggle of the cloak and the soft purr of Snuggles.
Outside, the flowers danced and the clouds wore hats. Inside, Pip smiled and closed his eyes, dreaming of more gentle, giggly magic to come.
And everything felt just right.
