Chapter 1: Percy's Peculiar Plan
Percy the pig woke up with a snort and a wiggle. The sun peeked through the barn window, landing right on his curly tail. His nose twitched with excitement, because today was not just any day. Today was the day of the Great Farmyard Silly Games!
Every spring, all the animals in Wobblebottom Village gathered for a day of the silliest competitions anyone could imagine: backward hopping, synchronized snorting, mud-puddle diving, and the always unpredictable Mystery Relay. Percy had never won a single event. Not once. Not ever. But this year, Percy had a plan—a plan so peculiar that it just might win him the biggest trophy of all.
“I need to stand out,” Percy told his best friend, Daisy the duck, as she waddled beside him to the breakfast trough. “No more coming in last. No more eating leftover apples. This year, I'll do something no one expects!”
Daisy blinked her round eyes. “Are you going to wear a tutu again?” she asked, remembering last year's dance-off disaster.
Percy shook his head, ears flopping. “Even better! I'm going to enter the Mystery Relay… with a secret weapon.” He lowered his voice. “A super-speedy, never-been-seen-before, rolling cabbage cart!”
Daisy gasped. “A cabbage cart? But Percy, you don't know how to drive a cart. And what if someone eats your wheels?”
Percy puffed up his chest. “That's the beauty of it! Who would dare eat wheels in the middle of a race? Besides, I'll decorate the cart with glitter and bells. No one can resist a sparkly ride!”
Daisy giggled, already imagining the chaos. “Well, you can count me in as your team's cheerleader!”
With a determined oink, Percy trotted off to the shed, ready to bring his wild idea to life.
Chapter 2: The Cabbage Cart Catastrophe
Building a cabbage cart was trickier than Percy thought. First, he had to find the biggest, roundest cabbages in the garden. Then, he borrowed Farmer Goat's old wheelbarrow (after promising to return it in one piece). Next, Percy attached four cabbages where the wheels should go, using Daisy's leftover ribbons to tie them on.
He stood back to admire his work. The cart was crooked, the cabbages squeaked when they turned, and the ribbons fluttered in the wind. Percy grinned. “Perfect!”
Just as Percy climbed aboard to test his creation, a chorus of giggles erupted. Henrietta the hen, Reginald the rabbit, and Boris the sheep had gathered to watch.
“Is that… supposed to move?” asked Henrietta, fluffing her feathers.
“It looks delicious!” added Reginald, licking his lips.
“Does it come with gravy?” Boris wondered aloud.
Percy ignored their laughter and pushed off. The cabbage wheels spun, and the cart teetered forward—straight into a shallow mud puddle. With a loud SPLAT, the cart sank, and Percy shot out the front in a shower of mud, landing at the feet of the astonished crowd.
Daisy flapped to his side. “Are you all right, Percy?”
Percy spat out a mouthful of mud and grinned. “Never better! All I need are sturdier wheels. Maybe… turnips!”
Reginald twitched his whiskers. “Or maybe you need a driver with longer legs.”
Henrietta piped up, “Or a bigger puddle!”
They all burst out laughing. Percy joined in, rolling onto his back, mud and all. “You wait and see,” he said. “Tomorrow, we'll win the Mystery Relay. With turnip wheels and a dash of daisy-power!”
Chapter 3: Training Day Trouble
By the next morning, Percy's cart had four shiny turnips for wheels. Daisy perched on the handle, waving a homemade pennant. Boris brought a pile of hay to use as seat cushions, and Reginald hopped in with a stopwatch.
“Let's practice the obstacle course!” Daisy declared.
The course was a wild mix of hay bales, puddles, and one suspicious-looking pile of apples (set up by Henrietta, who wanted a snack mid-race). The team lined up at the starting rope, which was actually Daisy's jump-rope tied to two fence posts.
“On your marks… get set… GO!” yelled Reginald, clicking his stopwatch.
Percy pushed with all his might. The turnips squeaked, the ribbons fluttered, and the cart wobbled down the lane. Boris tried to steer with a stick, but mostly just poked Percy in the ear. Daisy shouted encouragements (“Go left! No, the other left!”), while Reginald counted their time out loud.
Everything was going fine until the cart hit Henrietta's apple pile. Apples rolled everywhere. The cart swerved wildly. Percy squealed. Daisy ducked. Boris baaa-ed. Reginald leaped clear, but Henrietta dived in after an apple and got stuck under the cart.
When the dust settled, the cart was upside down, Reginald was tangled in ribbon, and Boris had an apple stuck on each horn. Percy helped everyone up, giggling so hard his sides hurt.
“You know,” said Boris, shaking apples from his wool, “I think we need a better plan.”
Daisy nodded, feathers ruffled. “And maybe some seatbelts.”
Percy looked at his friends, all covered in mud, apples, and ribbons. He realized he didn't care if they won. This was the most fun he'd ever had!
Chapter 4: The Great Farmyard Silly Games Begin
On the day of the Great Farmyard Silly Games, animals from every corner of Wobblebottom Village gathered at the big field. Colorful banners flapped, and the air buzzed with excitement (and a hint of manure).
Percy's team lined up at the start of the Mystery Relay, their cabbage-and-turnip cart shining in the sun. Daisy wore a sparkling cheer hat. Boris had bells on his horns. Henrietta had claimed the seat of honor, clutching an emergency apple, just in case.
The referee—an ancient, slightly deaf tortoise named Mrs. Tuttle—blew her whistle. “Ready… steady… GO!”
Teams shot off in every direction. The goats climbed over hay bales like mountain explorers. The ducks slid through puddles with wild splashes. The cats tried to skip, but mostly just argued over who would lead.
Percy's team thundered forward. The cart rattled. The turnips spun. Boris baa-ed encouragement, and Henrietta threw apples to distract the other teams.
“Go! Go! Go!” shouted Daisy, waving her pennant.
Suddenly, disaster struck. The cart hit a bump and one of the turnip wheels bounced off, rolling down the track. Percy leaped from the driver's seat, chasing after it.
“Don't let the goats eat it!” Daisy cried.
Percy sprinted. The goats spotted the runaway turnip and gave chase. The wheel zigzagged across the field, with Percy, three goats, and a very confused chicken in hot pursuit.
Meanwhile, Boris tried to steer the cart with only three wheels, but it spun in circles. Henrietta tossed apples at the goats to slow them down. Daisy cheered louder than ever.
At last, Percy caught the turnip wheel and raced back, dodging goats and an unusually speedy snail. He jammed the wheel back onto the cart (upside-down, but who cared?) and jumped aboard.
The team thundered toward the finish line. The other teams stumbled over apples, got tangled in ribbons, or stopped to argue about the rules. Percy's cart wobbled, bounced, and squeaked, but somehow, they crossed the finish line—sideways, upside-down, and laughing so hard they could barely breathe.
Chapter 5: The Upside-Down Trophy
Mrs. Tuttle ambled over, holding the biggest, shiniest trophy the farm had ever seen. She peered over her glasses at Percy and his muddy, giggling team.
“Well,” she said slowly, “I'm not sure if you won the relay, the muddiest team award, or the ‘Most Apples in Unexpected Places' trophy, but I do know this: you were the loudest, happiest, silliest bunch I've ever seen!”
The crowd burst into applause and snorts of laughter. Henrietta bowed, Boris jangled his bells, and Daisy performed a wobbly cartwheel.
Percy took the trophy (which was, of course, upside-down and covered in apple juice), and raised it high. “Three cheers for the silliest team in Wobblebottom Village!” he squealed.
“Hip-hip-hooray!” shouted everyone, even the goats, who were still nibbling on the leftover turnip wheel.
As the sun set and the animals headed home, Percy flopped onto the grass, exhausted and happy. He looked at his friends, all smiling and sticky and full of stories to tell.
Daisy flopped beside him. “Well, Percy, what's your plan for next year?”
Percy grinned, his nose twitching with excitement. “I'm thinking… carrot-powered pogo sticks!”
And everyone burst out laughing, already dreaming up next year's adventure.
