Two toddlers: Mimi, 1 year old, with short brown wispy hair, rosy round cheeks, wearing a yellow polka-dot onesie, sits left with a cup on her head like a hat, laughing with her mouth open; Lila, 1 year old, with short curly blonde hair, round blue eyes, in green overalls, sits right peering into the cup and saying "sipcup," smiling and reaching toward Mimi. They are in a sunny nursery with a soft pink rug, colorful cushions, a red cardboard box turned into a car, a few stacked blocks and a small toy duck on the floor, simple cloud drawings on the walls. Soft, bright colors, crayon-like strokes and waxy textures, very joyful expressions. report a problem with this image

Today, Mimi and Lila clap. Clap, clap, clap. Mimi is one. Lila is one. Two small friends. Two big smiles.

They see two cups. Mimi puts a cup on her head. “Hat,” said Mimi. Plop. The cup falls. Lila peeks in the cup. “Drink?” said Lila. Sip. Hee hee. “Hat-cup!” said Mimi. “Hat-cup!” said Lila. They laugh and wiggle.

They find a box on a soft mat. “Car,” said Lila. “Vroom,” said Mimi. Lila sits. Mimi pulls. Slow, slow, slow. The box stops. “Stuck?” said Lila. “Wiggle,” said Mimi. Wiggle, wiggle. The box goes. “All good,” they say. More giggles.

Blocks time. Up, up, up. Tall tower. Mimi holds one block. “Ring ring,” said Mimi. Lila answers. “Hello,” said Lila. The tower wobbles. Tip. Tip. Down, down, down. Soft bumps. “Ta-da!” they say. Clap, clap.

Snack time. One banana. “Share?” said Lila. “Share,” said Mimi. Peel. A bit for Mimi. A bit for Lila. “More?” said Mimi. Lila gives a shoe. “Snack?” said Lila. They look. They grin. “Silly shoe,” they say, and they hug.

A soft scarf. “Peek?” said Mimi. “Boo!” said Lila. Quick hide. Quick find. Happy eyes. Warm hands.

They line up toy ducks. Quack, quack, quack. One duck flips. Oops. “Help,” said Mimi. Lila sets it straight. “Thank you,” said Mimi. They pat the ducks. They pat the box. They pat each other.

Now the room is quiet. Slow breaths. Slow smiles. They curl on the mat, cheek to cheek, sweet and small, and the day hums like a soft song.

Kind friends share, help, and laugh, and then they rest well together.
