Mia is two. Mia has quick feet and soft hands. Mia has pals. Ben is one pal. Pip is a small pup. Dot is a duck who says, “Quack!” They sit in the yard. The sun is warm and kind.

“I want a picnic,” said Mia.

“Yes, yes, yes,” said Ben.

“Quack!” said Dot.

“Yip!” said Pip.

They bring a big blanket. Mia holds one end. Ben holds the other end. Pip steps on the middle. The blanket makes a cape on Pip. Pip struts. Pip looks very grand.

“A king!” said Mia.

“A rug,” said Ben.

“Quack-cape,” said Dot.

They laugh. Then they set the blanket on the grass. Smooth, smooth, smooth.

Mia has a banana. The banana goes to her ear.

“Ring ring,” said Mia.

“Ring ring,” said Ben.

“Hello?” said Mia.

“Hello!” said Ben.

They giggle and wiggle. Then Mia peels the banana. Peel, peel. She shares one soft piece with Ben. She shares a tiny bit with Pip and Dot. “Yum,” said all.

Ben brings two rolls. Round and soft.

“We roll the rolls?” said Ben.

Mia rolls a roll. It goes spin, spin. Pip chases. Dot hops. The roll stops. They pick it up with clean hands. “Snack time,” said Mia. They place the rolls on the blanket. Safe and neat.

Mia has jam. “Let us jam!” said Mia.

Ben claps. Pip taps. Dot flaps. Clap tap flap! They sing. They dance. They laugh big. Mia opens the jar. “Jam for bread,” said Mia. “Oh,” said Ben. “Jam and jam!” They smile. They spread jam. Swish, swish.

Ben finds cups. He puts one cup on his head. “Hat,” said Ben.

Mia puts one cup on her head too. “Hat,” said Mia.

The cups slip. Plop. They laugh. Then they set the cups down. They pour water. Sip, sip.

A small breeze comes. The blanket lifts a little.

“Oops,” said Mia. She pats the edge. Pat, pat, pat.

“Help,” said Ben. He pats too. Pip sits on a corner. Dot sits on a corner. The blanket stays. All calm now.

They eat. They share. They trade small bites. “More giggles,” said Mia. “More please,” said Ben. They wiggle. They tap. They tell tiny jokes.

“Knock knock,” said Mia.

“Who?” said Ben.

“Banana,” said Mia.

“Ring ring,” said Ben.

They laugh and laugh and laugh.

The sun feels soft. The yard turns quiet. Pip yawns. Dot nestles close. Mia pats Ben's hand. Slow, slow, slow.

When we share and help, our fun grows gentle and our hearts feel happy.
