Mia puts on her sparkly pumpkin hat. She giggles and twirls in front of the mirror. “Boo!” she says to her teddy bear, Mr. Button. Mr. Button is wearing a tiny bat cape. Mia laughs, and Mr. Button smiles, too.
Tonight is Halloween. Mia is a little bit excited and a little bit wiggly inside. She holds Mr. Button's paw. “Let's be brave together,” Mia whispers.
Outside, the wind dances with the leaves. Mia and Daddy walk down the path. Mia's pumpkin hat bounces. “Are you ready for our adventure?” Daddy asks.
Mia nods. “Yes! But... what if I see a spooky thing?” she asks.
Daddy kneels down. “If you feel a little scared, just breathe in, breathe out, and smile,” he says. “And I'll hold your hand.”
Mia takes a deep breath. She squeezes Daddy's hand and skips ahead. The houses are dressed up, too. One has a funny witch hat. Another has silly orange lights. Mia waves at a friendly ghost balloon. The ghost wiggles and waves back!
“Happy Halloween!” calls a neighbor, dropping a shiny candy into Mia's bag.
“Thank you!” Mia says, sharing a piece with Daddy. “Let's give one to Mr. Button, too!” Mia laughs and pretends to feed her teddy.
Suddenly, a tiny black kitten pops out from behind a pumpkin. “Meow!” says the kitten.
“Oh!” says Mia, jumping a little. Then she remembers Daddy's words. She takes a big breath, smiles, and crouches down. “Hello, kitten! You're not so spooky. You're soft and sweet!”
The kitten purrs and rubs against Mia's shoe. Mia giggles. “You want to come with us?” she asks.
Daddy nods. “Let's walk together.”
Mia, Daddy, Mr. Button, and the kitten stroll from house to house. Mia shares her treats, her giggles, and her smiles. The night feels warm and full of magic.
At the end, Mia hugs Mr. Button. “We did it! We were brave and kind.”
Daddy smiles. “You made Halloween happy for everyone.”
Mia yawns and snuggles close. The stars twinkle softly, and Mia dreams of pumpkins, kittens, and smiles.
