Max put on his favorite orange cape. He looked in the mirror and giggled. “I am Max the Marvelous!” he said. His cape was soft and shiny. His hat was big and pointy, just like a wizard's hat. He was ready for Halloween.
Max loved Halloween. He loved the bright pumpkins, the funny costumes, and the twinkly lights. But this year, Max had a special plan. He wanted to make a magic fruit juice potion to share with his friends. It would be sweet and a little bit spooky. It would be perfect for Halloween.
Max tiptoed into the kitchen. His little cat, Whiskers, followed him. Whiskers wore a tiny black cape too. “Meow!” said Whiskers.
“Come on, Whiskers,” said Max. “We have a potion to make!”
Max climbed onto his little stool. He put his favorite blue bowl on the table. “We need apples,” he said. He found two shiny red apples. He put them in the bowl. “Plop! Plop!”
“We need oranges,” said Max. He peeled two oranges. The peels made curly shapes. “Zippy zappy!” said Max.
Whiskers sniffed the bowl. “Meow!” he said.
“We need grapes!” said Max. He put a handful of purple grapes in the bowl. “Squish! Squash!”
Max looked around. “What else?” he wondered. He saw a banana. “A banana will make it yummy!” he said. He broke the banana into little pieces. “Bloop! Bloop!”
Max giggled. “Now, for the magic!” He reached for his secret ingredient—a tiny bottle of sparkling water. He poured it in. “Fizzzzz!” It bubbled and popped.
Whiskers watched with big eyes. “Meow!” he said.
Max stirred the potion with his wooden spoon. “Round and round, magic goes. Bubble, bubble, sparkle, glows!” he sang.
Suddenly, there was a soft knock at the door. Knock, knock!
Max jumped down from his stool. “Who could it be?” he whispered.
He opened the door. Outside stood his friends, Mia the Little Witch and Ben the Mini Monster. Mia wore a purple dress and a tall hat. Ben had green monster paws and a silly, wiggly tail.
“Happy Halloween, Max!” said Mia.
“Trick or treat!” said Ben.
Max grinned. “Come in! I'm making a magic fruit juice potion. Do you want to help?”
“Yes, please!” said Mia and Ben.
Mia looked at the bowl. “It smells fruity!” she said.
Ben giggled. “Is it spooky?”
Max winked. “It's a little spooky, but mostly sweet!”
Whiskers meowed and jumped onto a chair.
Max gave everyone a small cup. “Let's taste it together!” he said.
They all took a sip. Mia's eyes went wide. “Wow! It's fizzy and yummy!”
Ben laughed. “It tickles my tongue!”
Max smiled. “It's magic! It's for sharing.”
Mia said, “Can we add something else? Maybe some blueberries?”
Max nodded. “Good idea!” He poured in a handful of blueberries. “Plop, plop!”
Ben wanted to add something too. He found a lemon. “Just a little lemon?” he asked.
Max said, “Okay, just a little!” They squeezed a tiny bit in. “Squeezy, squeezy!”
Mia stirred the potion. “Round and round, magic goes. Bubble, bubble, sparkle, glows!” she sang.
Everyone laughed. Whiskers purred.
Suddenly, the lights flickered. The room felt a little spooky. Max looked at his friends. “Is it a ghost?” he whispered.
Mia shook her head. “No, Max! It's just the wind,” she said.
Ben said, “Let's make a silly ghost face!” He made a funny face and everyone laughed.
Max felt brave again. “Nothing scary here! Just friends and magic potion.”
Max poured more juice for everyone. “Let's have a Halloween toast!” he said.
They all raised their cups. “To Halloween! To friends! To magic potions!” they cheered.
Whiskers tapped his paw on the table. “Meow!” he said.
They all took a big sip. The potion was fruity, fizzy, and just a little bit sour. It made them giggle and smile.
Max looked around. “I'm glad we made this together,” he said.
Mia nodded. “It's more fun when we share.”
Ben said, “Best Halloween ever!”
They sat together, sipping their magic potion. The room glowed with warm light. The wind whispered outside, but inside, everything was cozy.
Max yawned. “I feel sleepy now,” he said.
Mia smiled. “It's time for a Halloween hug!”
They all gave each other a big, gentle hug. Whiskers purred and curled up on Max's lap.
Max closed his eyes. “Happy Halloween, everyone,” he whispered.
The friends sat close, feeling safe and happy. The magic potion was all gone, but the warm, gentle magic of friendship stayed with them.
Outside, the moon shone bright. Inside, Max and his friends dreamed sweet dreams, full of giggles, potions, and Halloween magic.
