Three boys: Leo (about 3) with short brown hair, round face, blue hat and yellow T-shirt, holding a small red ball at the center and leaning forward as if about to throw it; Max (about 2) with streaky blond hair, chubby cheek, red cap and green overalls to Leo’s left, pointing at a swing and smiling; Sam (about 2) with curly black hair, small and lively, striped white-and-blue T-shirt and beige shorts to Leo’s right, holding Leo’s hand and looking at the ball excitedly. They are in a bright summer park with textured green grass, a light gravel path, a wooden-and-metal swing in the background, a few trees with broad brushstroke leaves and a patterned blanket near a blue beach bucket. Main action: the red ball has rolled slowly on the grass and the three boys are leaning together to pick it up, joyful expressions, cooperative gestures, soft sun, short shadows and warm afternoon colors. report a problem with this image

Leo, Max, and Sam were two. They were on summer holiday with their moms and dads. The sun was warm. The air smelled like grass.

In the morning, the boys put on hats. Leo tapped his hat. “Hat,” he said. Max smiled. “Hat,” he said. Sam clapped. “Hat!” he said.

They went outside. The path was bright. Birds sang. A little breeze felt soft on their cheeks.

At the park, they saw a red ball. Leo held it. It felt round and smooth. Max pointed to the swing. “Swing,” he said. Sam held Leo's hand. “Go,” he said.

Leo tried to throw the ball. It rolled away, slow, to the side. Leo's eyes got wet. Mom came close. “It rolled,” she said. “We can get it.” Max and Sam toddled with Leo. They picked up the ball together. Leo hugged it. “We did,” he said.

Then it was snack time. They sat on a blanket. The blanket felt soft. They ate cold melon. It was sweet and juicy. Max licked his hands. “More,” he said. Dad gave him a wipe. “Wipe,” Dad said. Max giggled.

After snack, they played with a small bucket and a cup. There was a water tap. The water was cool. Sam poured. Splash. Leo laughed. Max tried. Some water went on his shirt. Max looked down. Mom touched his shirt. “Wet,” she said. “It is ok. We have a dry shirt.” Max helped pull on the dry shirt. “Help,” he said, proud.

In the afternoon, they walked home slow. The sun was low. The boys felt calm. At bath time, they washed off the day. Leo yawned. Max snuggled. Sam hummed.

They went to bed with smiles.

Moral: Little tries, kind help, and sharing make summer days happy.
