Chapter 1: Winter Outside
Ben put on his warm red hat and his big blue coat. “Are you ready, Ben?” asked Mama. Ben nodded. He loved going outside in winter. The snow was soft and white. It covered the grass and sparkled in the sun.
Ben took slow steps in the snow. Crunch, crunch, crunch! His boots made funny sounds. He giggled. “Look, Mama! My feet make big prints in the snow!” Ben laughed and made more prints, one after another. Mama smiled.
Ben saw the big trees. Their branches wore white coats too. “The trees look sleepy,” said Ben. “Yes,” Mama said. “The trees are resting. In winter, they wait for spring.”
A little bird hopped on a branch. It fluffed its feathers. “Why does the bird look so puffy?” asked Ben. “It makes itself warm,” Mama said. “Birds fluff up to stay cozy in the cold.” Ben waved at the bird. The bird chirped and hopped away.
Suddenly, Ben saw tiny paw prints in the snow. “Who made these?” he wondered. Mama knelt beside him. “Maybe a squirrel,” she said. Ben looked up and saw a bushy tail in the branches. “Hello, Squirrel!” Ben called. The squirrel peeked down, holding a nut. Ben laughed. “Squirrel is eating breakfast!” he said.
Chapter 2: Winter Wonders
Ben and Mama walked to the pond. The water was hard and shiny. “It's frozen!” Ben shouted. “Yes,” Mama smiled. “The pond turns to ice in winter. The ducks swim somewhere warm now.”
Ben saw a family of rabbits near the edge of the trees. “Rabbits!” Ben whispered. The rabbits hopped close together. “They stay together to keep warm,” Mama explained. Ben waved softly. “Stay warm, bunnies!” he whispered.
Soon, soft snowflakes began to fall. Ben held out his mitten. “Snow is cold and soft,” he said. He caught a snowflake on his mitten and looked at it closely. “It's so little and pretty,” Ben said. Mama nodded. “Every snowflake is special.”
Ben took a deep breath. The air was fresh and cool. “I like winter,” Ben said. “Everything is quiet and white.” Mama nodded. “Winter is a time for resting and sharing,” she said.
Chapter 3: Winter at Home
When Ben and Mama went back home, the house was warm. The smell of cookies filled the air. “Yum!” said Ben. Grandma was in the kitchen. “Would you like a cookie, Ben?” she asked. “Yes, please!” Ben replied. He loved Grandma's cookies.
After the snack, Ben helped Mama and Grandma decorate the house. They hung shiny stars and paper snowflakes. “It's beautiful!” Ben said. Mama smiled. “We celebrate winter together,” she said.
In the evening, Ben put on his soft pajamas. He sat by the window with his teddy bear. Outside, the snow was still falling. Little lights twinkled on the houses. Ben saw his friends making a snowman in their yard.
At bedtime, Mama tucked Ben in. “What did you learn today?” she asked. Ben hugged his teddy. “Birds fluff up, squirrels eat nuts, rabbits stay close, ponds freeze, and snowflakes are special,” he said.
Mama kissed Ben's forehead. “You saw many winter wonders,” she said. Ben smiled. “Winter is kind and full of surprises,” he whispered. Mama nodded. “And we share winter together.”
Ben closed his eyes, feeling warm and happy. The snow danced outside, and Ben dreamed of all the gentle, beautiful things he could see and share each winter day.
