Chapter 1: The New Friend
Tommy was a cheerful little boy with bright, twinkling eyes and a big, warm smile. He was five years old and loved going to school. His favorite part of the day was playing with his friends during recess, running around the playground with the wind in his hair.
One sunny Monday, Tommy met a new friend in class. Her name was Lily, and she had just moved to town. She had soft, curly hair and always wore colorful dresses that swayed when she walked. Tommy decided he wanted to be friends with Lily, so he smiled his biggest smile and said, "Hi! Do you want to play with us?"
Lily nodded happily. "Yes, I'd love to!"
Tommy and Lily played games with the other children. They giggled and laughed as they played tag and built castles in the sandpit. Tommy felt happy to have made a new friend. But as the days passed, Tommy noticed something strange.
Lily sometimes looked sad or worried. She didn't laugh as much as the other kids. Tommy wondered why, but he didn't know how to ask.
Chapter 2: The Mean Words
One day, as Tommy and Lily were finishing their art projects, he saw a group of kids whispering and pointing at Lily. They laughed and said mean things about her dress and her hair. Tommy felt a knot in his stomach. He knew they were bullying Lily, and bullying was wrong.
Tommy remembered a special lesson they had learned at school about being kind and how important it was to tell a grown-up if someone was being mean. But he felt unsure. He didn't want to make Lily feel worse.
During lunchtime, Tommy noticed Lily sitting alone. He approached her carefully, just like his teacher had taught him. "Lily," he said softly, "are you okay? I saw those kids being mean. Do you want to talk about it?"
Lily looked up with teary eyes. "They said my dress is ugly and that I'm weird."
Tommy felt sad for his friend. "I think your dress is beautiful, and you're not weird. You're amazing just the way you are."
Lily smiled a little, and Tommy felt better. He decided he needed to help his friend.
Chapter 3: The Plan
Tommy remembered the school program about bullying and how important it was to stand up for what was right. He had learned that telling an adult was not tattling; it was helping someone in need. So, after school, Tommy talked to his teacher, Miss Brown.
"Miss Brown," Tommy began, "some kids are being mean to Lily. They're bullying her, and it makes her sad."
Miss Brown knelt down and rested a gentle hand on Tommy's shoulder. "Tommy, thank you for telling me. You did the right thing. We need to make sure our school is a safe and happy place for everyone."
Miss Brown spoke to the principal, and together they invited the whole class to a special meeting. They talked about how words can hurt and how everyone deserves to feel safe and happy at school. They encouraged the children to be kind and to speak up if they saw someone being bullied.
Chapter 4: A Brighter Day
The next day, Tommy saw a change. The kids who had been mean to Lily came up to her and apologized. "We're sorry, Lily," they said, looking at the ground. "We didn't mean to hurt your feelings."
Lily smiled brightly, her eyes sparkling like stars. "Thank you," she said softly.
Tommy felt proud. He learned that words have power, both to hurt and to heal. He also learned that by speaking up, he could make a difference. School felt brighter and happier, and everyone played together with smiles and laughter.
From then on, Tommy knew the importance of being kind, helping others, and creating a safe place for everyone. He and Lily became best friends, always standing up for what was right and spreading kindness wherever they went.
Tommy learned that even little voices can make a big difference. And when everyone works together to be kind, the world becomes a better place for everyone.
