Chapter 1: The Happy Surprise
Mila and Lucy were best friends. They were both four years old. Every day, they liked to play together in the garden. The sun was shining, and the air smelled sweet like flowers.
One morning, Mila was sitting on the grass. She was looking at the little bugs crawling under the leaves. Suddenly, she heard tiny footsteps. It was Lucy! Lucy was running towards Mila, holding something behind her back.
“Good morning, Mila!” said Lucy, smiling big.
“Good morning, Lucy! What are you hiding?” Mila asked, her eyes wide and curious.
Lucy giggled. “It's a surprise! Close your eyes, Mila!”
Mila closed her eyes tight. She waited and waited. She could hear Lucy giggling. Then she felt something soft in her hands.
“Open your eyes now!” said Lucy.
Mila opened her eyes and saw a shiny yellow flower in her hands. The petals were bright and happy, just like the sun.
“For me?” Mila asked.
“Yes! I picked it just for you,” Lucy said. “Because you are my best friend.”
Mila felt something warm and tingly in her chest. Her face felt like it was smiling all by itself. She held the flower close and her heart felt like it wanted to sing.
“Thank you, Lucy!” said Mila. “I feel so happy! I feel full of… joy!”
Lucy clapped her hands. “Joy is a nice feeling. It makes me want to jump and laugh!”
Mila laughed. “Me too! Let's jump together!”
So Mila and Lucy jumped and spun around the garden. The flower twirled in Mila's hand. They laughed and laughed. Their giggles sounded like tiny bells.
Chapter 2: Sharing Joy
After a while, Mila and Lucy sat under a big tree. Mila still held her special flower. The warm feeling was still in her heart.
“Lucy,” Mila said, “how do you know when you feel joy?”
Lucy thought for a moment. “When I feel joy, my tummy feels like there are butterflies, and my face feels all smiley. Sometimes, my feet want to dance!”
Mila nodded. “I feel that too. I want to hug you and hug the whole world!”
Lucy gave Mila a big, gentle hug. “I like feeling joy. I wish everyone could feel this happy.”
Mila looked around and saw a little ant walking by. She put her flower on the grass next to the ant.
“Maybe the ant will feel happy too,” Mila said.
Lucy giggled again. “Maybe the ant will take the flower to her ant friends. Then all the ants can feel joy!”
Mila smiled. “Joy is so nice. I think when we share it, it grows and grows, just like a flower.”
Lucy nodded. “Yes! Sharing joy makes more joy.”
The two friends sat quietly. The wind was soft. The tree leaves danced above them. Mila thought about all the times she had felt joy. When her mummy hugged her. When she painted a picture. When she found a pretty stone. Now, she knew the word for that happy, warm feeling. It was joy.
Chapter 3: Keeping Joy Close
Soon, it was time for Lucy to go home. She stood up and brushed the grass from her dress.
“I had a joyful day, Mila,” Lucy said.
“Me too,” said Mila. “Thank you for my flower. I will keep the joy in my heart, even when we are not together.”
Lucy nodded. “And when you feel joy again, you can remember today.”
Mila smiled. “Yes! And if I ever feel sad, I can think of you and our happy day.”
Lucy waved goodbye. Mila watched her friend go, her heart still full of joy.
Mila whispered, “Thank you, joy, for making my day so bright.”
That night, as Mila got ready for bed, she thought about her day. She hugged her pillow and smiled.
She knew that joy was a wonderful feeling. Joy could come from a friend, a flower, or a hug. Joy could be shared, and it could grow.
Mila closed her eyes and felt the joy inside her, soft and warm, ready for another happy day.
