Part 1: Too Many Thoughts
Little Max woke up in his soft, warm bed. The sun peeked through the curtains. Today was a new day. Max wriggled his toes and smiled. He could hear birds singing outside.
Max wanted to play with his toys, read his books, and help Daddy make pancakes. He wanted to do everything at once! He ran to his toy box. He saw his red car, his blue bear, and his puzzle. Max loved his puzzle. But he also wanted to play with his red car. And he also wanted to help Daddy right now.
Max's head felt full, like a box with too many toys inside. He wanted to do everything, but he didn't know where to start. He looked at his bear, then at his car, then at the kitchen. His tummy felt funny. Max felt confused.
Part 2: Taking a Pause
Max's Daddy came into the room. He saw Max sitting on the floor, holding his blue bear. Max looked up. “Daddy, I don't know what to do,” Max said. “I want to play, and I want to help, and I want to read. My head feels all mixed up.”
Daddy sat down next to Max. He smiled gently. “That feeling is called confusion, Max,” Daddy said softly. “It's okay to feel confused when there are too many things to choose.”
Max squeezed his bear. “What do I do now?” he asked.
Daddy said, “Sometimes, when we feel confused, we can take a little pause. Let's close our eyes and take a big, slow breath together.”
Max closed his eyes. He took a big breath in, and let it out slowly. He did it again. His shoulders felt softer. His head felt a little lighter.
“Now,” Daddy said, “let's listen to your heart. What would you like to do first?”
Max listened. He felt something warm in his chest. “I think I want to help you make pancakes first,” he said, smiling.
Part 3: Feeling Warm Inside
Max and Daddy went to the kitchen. They mixed the flour. They cracked the eggs. Max laughed when the flour tickled his nose.
After breakfast, Max played with his red car. Later, he did his puzzle and read his favorite book with Daddy.
At the end of the day, Max felt calm and happy. He remembered his pause. He remembered Daddy's soft voice. Max hugged his blue bear and put his hand on his chest.
He felt a warm, gentle feeling inside. Max knew that even when confusion came, he could always take a little pause and listen to his heart. That made him feel safe and loved.
