Chapter 1: A New Toy at Preschool

Leo was a little boy with curly brown hair and a big smile. He loved going to preschool every day. He liked playing with blocks and drawing with crayons. Leo had a best friend named Mia. They laughed together and shared snacks at lunchtime.

One bright morning, Leo came to preschool and saw Mia playing with a shiny red truck. It was new and sparkled in the sun. Leo watched as Mia made the truck zoom across the floor. “Vroom! Vroom!” said Mia, giggling.

Leo wanted to play with the red truck too. He remembered how he and Mia always shared toys. But today, Mia did not look at him. She kept playing with the truck.

“Can I play with you, Mia?” asked Leo in a small voice.

Mia shook her head. “Not now, Leo. I want to play by myself,” she said.

Leo felt something strange inside. His tummy felt tight and his face got warm. He wanted the truck, and he wanted Mia to play with him. Leo sat down on the soft rug. He crossed his arms and watched Mia. He did not feel happy. He felt a little bit mad. He felt jealous.

Chapter 2: Big Feelings and Small Steps

Miss Rose, the gentle teacher, saw Leo's quiet frown. She knelt down beside him.

“Hello, Leo. You look upset,” said Miss Rose softly.

Leo nodded. “I want the red truck. Mia won't play with me,” he whispered.

Miss Rose smiled kindly. “It sounds like you feel sad and maybe a little jealous. That's okay. Everybody feels that way sometimes.”

Leo looked down at his shoes. “I want to play too.”

Miss Rose sat with Leo for a moment. “When I feel jealous, I take a deep breath. Do you want to try it with me?”

Leo nodded. Together, they took big, slow breaths. In and out. In and out. Leo felt a little better.

“I want to tell Mia how I feel,” said Leo.

Miss Rose nodded. “That's a good idea. You can use your words, Leo.”

Leo stood up and walked to Mia. He spoke softly. “Mia, I feel sad. I want to play with the red truck too.”

Mia looked at Leo and thought for a minute. “I didn't know you felt sad, Leo. I was having fun with the truck. We can take turns.”

Leo smiled. “Can I have a turn now?”

Mia nodded and handed him the shiny red truck. “You play first, then I play next,” she said.

Leo felt happy. He pushed the truck gently and made a silly noise. “Beep beep!” Mia giggled. Soon, they were both laughing.

Chapter 3: Learning about Jalousy

Later, Leo and Mia sat together eating apples. Leo remembered the feeling in his tummy from earlier.

“Mia, sometimes I feel funny inside when I want what you have,” Leo said.

Mia nodded. “Me too. Sometimes I want your blue ball. It's okay to feel that way.”

Miss Rose came over with a warm smile. “Feelings like jealousy can be big and strong. But when we talk about them, the feelings get softer and smaller.”

Leo looked at Mia. “Next time, I will use my words. I can tell you how I feel.”

Mia smiled and gave Leo a hug. “We can always take turns. We are friends.”

Leo felt proud. He had a big feeling, but he found a way to talk about it. He learned that sharing, talking, and taking deep breaths helped him feel better. Leo and Mia played and laughed together for the rest of the day, feeling happy and safe.

At home that night, Leo told his mom about his day. “I felt jealous, but then I talked to Mia and we shared,” he said.

Mom hugged Leo tight. “I am proud of you, Leo. Your feelings are important, and you are learning what to do. That is very brave.”

Leo smiled. His heart felt light and warm. He knew that everyone had big feelings sometimes, but talking and sharing made them smaller. And tomorrow, he could play with Mia again.
