A joyful 6-year-old boy with a round face, messy brown hair, hazel eyes and a triumphant smile kneels in dark soil like a little detective, holding a small red metal plant tag in his right hand as a bright brown squirrel with a bushy tail on an overturned pot shows a shiny piece and looks at him; behind him slightly left a smiling grandmother (~65) with gray hair in a soft bun, round glasses and a watering can watches affectionately, and to the right Mr. Green (~50), tanned in a rolled-sleeve green shirt, stands near tomato beds relieved as he accepts the tags, all in a bright greenhouse of terracotta pots, rows of red tomatoes, tall sunflowers and herbs with soft light through misted glass, small footprints in the soil, adults gently applauding, warm curious atmosphere with pastel colors, watery textures and white-pen highlights. report a problem with this image

Chapter 1: The Mystery in the Greenhouse

Sammy loved visiting the plant nursery with Grandma every Saturday morning. The air always smelled fresh, and all the plants looked like they were waving hello. Sammy liked to help carry the small pots and sometimes even got to water the baby flowers.

One sunny Saturday, something strange happened. When Sammy and Grandma arrived, Mr. Green, the nursery owner, was scratching his head in front of the tomato plants.

“Oh dear,” he said. “Some of my plant labels are missing! Now I don't know which plant is which.”

Sammy's eyes grew wide. “That sounds like a mystery!” he whispered to Grandma.

Grandma smiled. “Maybe you can solve it, Detective Sammy.”

Sammy stood tall and nodded. He liked the sound of that. Detective Sammy, ready to help!

“Mr. Green, when did you last see the labels?” Sammy asked in his best detective voice.

“Last night,” said Mr. Green. “Everything was in order. But this morning, the labels for the tomatoes, carrots, and peppers were gone!”

Sammy knelt down and looked around. He saw tiny footprints in the soft dirt.

He turned to Mr. Green. “Did you see anyone near the plants?”

“No, but I heard a rustling noise very early, before I opened the nursery,” Mr. Green replied.

Sammy's brain buzzed. Who could it be? A plant label thief? Or maybe something else?

Chapter 2: Clues and Questions

Detective Sammy grabbed his small notebook (he always carried one, just in case). He wrote down the clues:

1. Labels missing.

2. Footprints in the dirt.

3. Rustling noise in the morning.

“Let's follow the footprints,” Sammy said. They all leaned in and followed the tiny tracks, which led past the tomato pots, behind the tall sunflowers, and right to a small bush at the edge of the nursery.

Suddenly, something squeaked and darted away. It was a squirrel! It had a shiny object in its mouth.

Sammy giggled. “Mr. Green, do squirrels like plant labels?”

Mr. Green laughed, “Not usually, but sometimes they take shiny things for their nests.”

Sammy looked closer at the bush. There, tucked between some sticks and leaves, were two plant labels and one missing glove!

“We found some labels!” Sammy cheered. He handed them to Mr. Green. “But where's the pepper label?”

Grandma pointed to the squirrel, who was now fiddling with something behind a flowerpot.

Sammy tiptoed over. “Hello, little squirrel,” he whispered. “Did you borrow our pepper label?”

The squirrel twitched its nose and dropped the label. Sammy picked it up and laughed. “Thank you, Mr. Squirrel!”

They all laughed together.

Chapter 3: The Habit and the Happy Ending

Mr. Green put the labels back where they belonged. “Thank you, Detective Sammy! You saved the day.”

Sammy grinned. “I just followed the clues.”

Suddenly, Sammy remembered something. “Mr. Green, do you always leave the labels sticking way up? Maybe that's why the squirrel took them. They're easy to see and grab!”

Mr. Green nodded. “You're right, Sammy. I do that so it's easy for me to read them. But maybe next time, I'll tuck them in a little lower so they aren't so shiny and tempting.”

Grandma smiled at Sammy. “You're a smart detective. And you noticed a habit!”

Sammy felt proud. He learned that sometimes, solving a mystery means noticing small things—like how high a label is, or how squirrels like shiny stuff.

Mr. Green clapped his hands. “I think this calls for a celebration! How about some lemonade in the greenhouse?”

Everyone cheered. Sammy felt warm and happy inside. He loved helping, and he knew that even small detectives could make a big difference.

While they sipped their lemonade, Sammy looked at the plants and the squirrel, who was now happily munching on a fallen seed.

“I'm glad we solved the mystery together,” Sammy said.

Grandma patted his back. “And you never gave up, even when it was tricky.”

Sammy smiled. Maybe every day could have a little mystery, if you looked closely enough.

And sometimes, the best part of solving a mystery is sharing the adventure with friends—both big and small!
