Once upon a time, there was a curious little girl named Lily. Lily loved solving mysteries. She had a bright red magnifying glass and a hat just like a real detective. One sunny morning, she found a new mystery to solve. Inside her house, the staircase was missing a step!

The Missing Step

Lily stood at the bottom of the stairs. She always counted the steps when she went up or down. "One, two, three, four," she whispered. But today, she stopped at nine instead of ten! "How strange," thought Lily. "Where did the tenth step go?"

Lily decided this was a perfect mystery to solve. She tapped her chin and thought for a moment. "I should investigate!" she said, smiling.

She walked around the house, peeking under rugs and cushions. She even checked behind the curtains. But the step was nowhere to be found. Then, she remembered something. Her grandfather had a wonderful greenhouse filled with plants and flowers. Maybe he knew something about the missing step.

The Greenhouse Adventure

Lily skipped outside to the greenhouse. The air was warm and smelled like fresh soil. Plants of every kind reached up to the sun. Her grandfather was there, watering his plants. "Hello, Lily! What brings you here?" he asked with a twinkle in his eye.

Lily explained her mystery. "Grandpa, there's a step missing from our staircase. I can't find it anywhere!"

Her grandfather chuckled softly. "Well, let's see if we can find some clues here," he suggested.

Lily and her grandpa began to look around the greenhouse. She counted the pots on the shelf. "One, two, three..." she counted. Every pot was in its place. Then, something caught her eye. A bird with bright blue feathers was hopping around one of the plants.

Lily giggled. "Look, Grandpa! The bird is acting funny," she pointed out. It was trying to tug something out from under a big leaf.

Her grandpa leaned closer. "What have you found, little one?" he asked the bird.

Together, they gently lifted the leaf. There, under the plant, was a small piece of wood. "Could this be your missing step, Lily?" her grandfather asked with a smile.

Lily inspected the wood. "Yes! This is it!" she exclaimed. "But how did it get here?"

The bird chirped happily, as if trying to tell them something. Lily thought for a moment. "Maybe the bird wanted it for its nest," she guessed.

Her grandfather laughed. "It looks like you've solved the mystery, Detective Lily. The bird must have borrowed it!"

A Happy Goodbye

With her mystery solved, Lily thanked the bird for its help. "You can keep it for your nest," she said kindly. "I'll find another way up the stairs."

Lily and her grandpa left the greenhouse, laughing all the way. When they got back to the house, her grandfather crafted a brand new step for the staircase. "Now you can count to ten again, Lily," he said.

Lily felt proud and happy. Not only had she solved the mystery, but she had also made a new feathered friend. "Thank you, Grandpa," she said, giving him a big hug.

As the sun began to set, Lily waved goodbye to the bird from her bedroom window. "Goodbye, little bird! Thank you for the adventure," she called out, smiling brightly.

And so, Lily's day ended with a joyful heart, knowing that curiosity and kindness made her world a little brighter.
