Teddy is in bed. It is dark. Teddy is small. Teddy is shy. Teddy feels scared.
“Teddy, are you okay?” says Mama Lamp.
“I think I see a monster,” Teddy whispers. Teddy's eyes are big. Teddy hugs his blanket.
Mama Lamp shines her light. The room is soft and warm.
“Where is the monster?” asks Mama Lamp.
Teddy points. “There! By my chair. It is big. It is scary.”
Mama Lamp smiles. “Let's look together.”
Teddy holds Mama Lamp's hand. They walk to the chair.
Mama Lamp shines bright. “See, Teddy? It is just your hat and your coat.”
Teddy looks. Teddy blinks. “It is just my hat. It is just my coat.”
Mama Lamp hugs Teddy. “Monsters are not real, Teddy. When you feel scared, you can talk to me.”
Teddy nods. Teddy feels warm.
Teddy says, “Thank you, Mama Lamp.”
Mama Lamp kisses Teddy's head.
Teddy smiles. “I am not scared now. Talking helps.”
Mama Lamp holds Teddy close. “You are very brave, Teddy.”
Teddy yawns. “Good night, Mama Lamp.”
Mama Lamp whispers, “Good night, Teddy. I am here.”
Teddy closes his eyes. Teddy feels safe. Teddy is not scared.
