Chapter 1: A Busy Day at School

It was a bright and sunny morning. Sam, a little boy with curly hair, was so happy. He held his red backpack and smiled. Today, Sam was going to school. Sam loved school. He loved his best friend, Ben. Ben had the nicest smile and liked to play cars with Sam.

When Sam walked into the classroom, he saw Ben. “Hi, Ben!” Sam waved. Ben waved back. “Hi, Sam!” they said together.

The teacher said, “Good morning, everyone!” Sam and Ben sat at their little table. They liked to color and laugh. “Let's build a tower!” said Sam. Ben nodded. “Yes, let's build a big, big tower!”

Sam put a block, then Ben put a block. Up, up, up went the tower! But then Sam wanted to put the last block on top. “Let me do it!” Sam said. Ben shook his head. “No, I want to do it!” Ben said.

Both boys held the block. “Me!” said Sam. “Me!” said Ben. Suddenly, the tower fell down. CRASH! Blocks rolled all over the floor. Sam felt sad. Ben felt sad too. They looked at each other. No one smiled now.

Chapter 2: Saying Sorry

Sam looked at Ben. Ben looked at Sam. They both felt a little angry. They both felt a little sad. The teacher came over. “What happened, boys?” she asked gently.

Sam was quiet. Ben was quiet, too. The teacher smiled. “It's okay to feel upset. You both wanted to help. You can talk to each other.”

Sam took a deep breath. He remembered that Ben was his best friend. He liked to laugh with Ben. He liked to play with Ben. Sam touched Ben's hand. “I'm sorry, Ben,” Sam said softly. “I did not want to make you sad.”

Ben looked at Sam. Ben smiled a small smile. “I'm sorry, too, Sam,” said Ben. “I wanted to help you.”

Sam and Ben hugged. Hug, hug, hug. The teacher smiled. “Thank you for saying sorry. You are both kind friends.”

Sam felt warm inside. Ben felt happy too. “Let's build another tower,” said Sam. Ben nodded. “Let's build it together,” Ben said.

So Sam put a block. Ben put a block. Up, up, up went the tower. They laughed and laughed. The tower was tall and strong.

Chapter 3: Friends Forever

After building the tower, Sam and Ben cleaned up the blocks. They worked together. “You are my best friend,” said Sam. “Best friends forever,” said Ben.

At snack time, Sam shared his apple with Ben. Ben shared his crackers with Sam. “Thank you, Ben!” said Sam. “Thank you, Sam!” said Ben. They smiled and giggled.

When it was time to go home, Sam waved at Ben. “See you tomorrow, Ben!” said Sam. Ben waved back. “See you tomorrow, Sam!”

Sam felt happy. He learned something special today. Friends sometimes feel sad, but friends can say sorry. Friends can forgive. Friends can share and play together again. Friendship is a treasure. Sam knew he would always care for his friend, Ben.

Sam smiled all the way home, thinking about his best friend and their happy day at school.
