Chapter 1: A Summer Day at Home
It was summertime. The sun was warm. Little Oliver woke up early. He was three years old. He loved summer very much.
Oliver ran to the window. He saw blue sky and green trees. The birds chirped, “Tweet-tweet!” Oliver smiled. “Today will be a happy day,” he said.
Oliver's mommy came in. “Good morning, my little explorer,” she said. She gave him a big, warm hug. Oliver laughed. He loved morning hugs.
“Today is a summer day,” said Mommy. “What would you like to do?” Oliver thought. He liked his toy cars. But he also liked stories. He liked to learn new things.
“I want to learn about summer,” said Oliver. “I want to see how other children have fun in the summer.”
Mommy smiled. “That is a wonderful idea,” she said. “We can read a book. We can watch a little movie. We can explore our street.”
Oliver clapped his hands. “Yes, yes!” he said. He hugged his teddy bear, Bear-Bear. Bear-Bear always went with him.
Mommy picked a colorful book. The book had pictures of summer in faraway places. Oliver sat on her lap. Bear-Bear sat with him.
“Look, Oliver,” Mommy said, “these children are at the beach in Spain. They build sandcastles. They splash in the waves.”
Oliver looked at the pictures. “I want to splash,” he said. He made little splashing sounds with his hands.
Mommy turned the page. “These children are in Japan. They fly bright kites in the sky. Their kites look like fish.”
Oliver pointed, “Fish kites! So many colors!” He smiled and waved his hands like a kite.
Mommy turned another page. “These children are in a big city. They eat ice cream with their friends. They play in the park.”
Oliver giggled. “I like ice cream. I like the park.”
“Yes, Oliver,” said Mommy. “Many children have fun in the summer. Just like you.”
Chapter 2: Exploring the Neighborhood
After the book, Oliver wanted to see summer fun outside. “Let's go, Mommy! Let's explore!” he said.
Mommy put on his sun hat. She put on his shoes. Bear-Bear came too.
They walked down the street. Oliver saw flowers in the gardens. He saw children riding bikes. “Look, Mommy! Summer is here!” he said.
At the corner, they met Oliver's friend Mia. Mia was four years old. She had a pink hat and a big smile.
“Hi, Oliver!” said Mia. “Do you want to play?”
“Yes!” said Oliver. “Let's find summer things!”
They walked together with their mommies. They saw a little library. There were books about animals, about boats, about faraway places.
Oliver picked a book about summer in Africa. “Look, Mia, these children dance and sing in the sun!” Mia clapped her hands. “Let's sing too!”
Oliver and Mia sang a happy song. They danced in a circle. The mommies smiled.
Then they went to the park. The grass was soft and green. “Let's have a picnic,” said Mommy. She took out apples and water. Oliver shared his apple with Mia.
“I like summer picnics,” said Oliver. Mia nodded. “Me too!”
Oliver looked up. He saw clouds in the blue sky. Some clouds looked like boats. Some looked like kites.
“Look, Mommy! Look, Mia! The sky makes pictures!” Oliver said.
They all looked and laughed.
Chapter 3: Sharing and Learning
When Oliver went home, he was happy. He sat with Mommy at the table.
“Did you have a good day?” asked Mommy.
“Yes,” said Oliver. “I learned about summer in Spain, in Japan, in Africa. I saw kites and sandcastles. I sang and danced. I had a picnic with Mia. Summer is fun everywhere!”
Mommy hugged him. “You are a wonderful explorer, Oliver.”
Oliver hugged Bear-Bear. He closed his eyes.
“Thank you, Mommy. Thank you, Bear-Bear. Thank you, summer,” he whispered.
Mommy smiled. “You can find magic everywhere, Oliver. Summer is full of joy, learning, and sharing. Every day can be special.”
Oliver smiled in his sleep. He dreamed of kites, sandcastles, and singing with his friends. Summer was wonderful—at home, in books, and in his heart.
