Officer Lucy puts on her shiny blue hat. She wears a big, friendly smile. Her badge sparkles in the morning sun. Officer Lucy loves her job. She loves to help people every day.

She stands at the corner by the bakery. All around, cars drive by, and children walk to school. Officer Lucy waves at everyone. She says, “Hello! Good morning!” Her voice is kind and happy.

Little Ben walks with his mom. Ben sees Officer Lucy and waves. “Hello, Officer Lucy!” he calls.

Officer Lucy kneels down to Ben's level. “Good morning, Ben! How are you today?” she asks.

“I'm happy,” Ben says. “What are you doing, Officer Lucy?”

Officer Lucy smiles. “I help everyone be safe. I help cars go slow and people cross the street. My job is very important!”

Ben grins. “Wow! That sounds fun.”

Officer Lucy nods. “It is fun. I get to help my friends in the community every day.”

Ben thinks. He looks up with wide eyes. “What else do you do, Officer Lucy?” he asks.

Chapter Two: Helping the Community

Officer Lucy and Ben sit on a bench. Birds sing in the trees. The sun feels warm.

Officer Lucy says, “Sometimes, I help people who are lost. Yesterday, I found Mrs. Green's cat. The cat was hiding under a bush. I gave her a gentle hug, and we walked home together.”

Ben laughs. “Did the cat say thank you?”

Officer Lucy giggles. “She purred and rubbed her head on my hand. That is cat language for thank you!”

Ben claps his hands. “You help cats! Do you help dogs, too?”

Officer Lucy nods. “I help dogs, and people, and birds. I help anyone who needs me. Sometimes, I give children a bandage if they fall. Sometimes, I show children how to cross the street safely. I always listen when someone needs to talk.”

Ben smiles. “I want to help people too.”

Officer Lucy smiles warmly. “That is wonderful, Ben. We can all help. When we are kind, when we share, when we listen, we help our community.”

Chapter Three: The Big Goal

Officer Lucy looks at Ben with gentle eyes. “Today, I have a big goal. I want to teach all the children in our town how to be safe. I want everyone to remember to look both ways before they cross the street. I want everyone to remember to ask for help if they feel lost or scared.”

Ben nods. “I can help you, Officer Lucy. I can tell my friends.”

Officer Lucy smiles and gives Ben a sticker shaped like a star. “Thank you, Ben! You are a helper too. We need helpers in our community.”

Ben holds the sticker. He feels happy and proud.

Officer Lucy stands up and waves. “I must go now. I have more friends to help today. Remember, I am always here if you need me.”

Ben waves back. “Goodbye, Officer Lucy! Thank you for keeping us safe.”

Officer Lucy walks away with her shiny blue hat and her big, friendly smile. The town feels happy and safe, just like every day when Officer Lucy does her job.

The sun shines. The birds sing. Everyone is safe and cared for. And Ben remembers, he can help too, in small, kind ways, every day.
