Mimi was a small red mitten.
Mimi lived in a big soft basket.
In the basket were Socks and Hat and Scarf.
One day, the air felt very cold.
Snow fell, slow and quiet, at the window.
The sky looked pale and low.
Day felt short.
Light went away early.
Mimi felt a tiny bit unsure.
“Why so cold? Why so dark?” Mimi said.
Hat moved close. “This is winter,” Hat said.
“Winter is cold. Winter is short days.
But winter has warm times too.”
Scarf gave Mimi a gentle hug.
“You can like winter,” Scarf said.
“Feel the soft snow.
Feel the warm basket.
See the small lights in the dark.”
Snowflakes sat on the glass and slowly melted.
The basket felt cosy and safe.
Mimi felt calm.
Mimi looked out at the white world.
Mimi looked in at her warm friends.
Her little wool heart felt brave and full.
That night Mimi fell asleep snug and happy, learning that winter feels kind when we stay warm and share gentle times with friends.
