A smiling woman, Maya, stands in her bright little bakery, with her brown hair tied in a bun and wearing a striped apron. She has sparkling eyes and rosy cheeks as she kneads a golden dough on a wooden table. Next to her, a boy named Leo, about 8 years old with messy blonde hair and wearing a blue t-shirt, watches in awe. He holds a small metal bowl and smiles, ready to help. The bakery is warm, with red brick walls, shelves filled with golden bread, and windows letting in the morning light. Bags of flour and jars of sugar are arranged on the countertop, creating a welcoming atmosphere. Maya and Leo are working together to prepare delicious little apple pastries, with pieces of juicy apples and cinnamon wafting through the air. report a problem with this image

Before Sunrise

Maya the baker wakes before the sun. She smiles and stands. She walks to her bright, small bakery. The street is quiet. Flour sits like soft snow. Sugar sparkles like tiny stars. Maya ties her apron. "Good morning, Sunny," says Maya to her humming oven. "Good morning," hums Sunny, friendly and low. Maya measures flour on a scale. She pours milk into a bowl. She cracks eggs with gentle taps. She mixes and stirs. She sprinkles yeast like shy rain. The dough turns smooth and springy. Maya kneads with calm hands. Push, fold, turn. Push, fold, turn. Puff the cat curls on a chair. Leo the neighbor peeks in and waves. The bakery feels awake and kind.

The Soft Butter Puzzle

Maya plans apple buns today. She needs cool, firm butter. She opens the butter. It feels very soft. She needs it cooler for pastry. "The butter feels sleepy," says Maya. "We can help," says Leo, bright and ready. Maya cuts the butter into small cubes. Leo brings a cool metal bowl. He wraps it in a damp, cold towel. "A cool blanket," says Leo. Maya slips the butter into the bowl. She sets it in the fridge for a short rest. She washes the table clean. Clean tools help bakers work well. Maya checks the dough. It rises like a sleepy cloud. Sunny hums, warm and steady. The butter chills and wakes.

Warm Buns, Calm Night

Maya takes the butter from the fridge. It is cool and ready. She rolls the dough into a soft, flat carpet. She dots the butter like little moons. She sprinkles cinnamon like brown rain. She adds apples, thin and sweet. Roll, roll. Slice, slice. The buns sit on a tray. Sunny opens his warm mouth. "I am ready," hums Sunny. The tray slides inside. The bakery fills with a gentle smell. It smells like hugs and home. Maya and Leo clean the bowls. Bakers clean while they wait. Ding, sing, the buns are done. Golden swirls smile on the tray. Maya shares a bun with Leo. Puff licks a safe crumb. They taste slow and happy. "Thank you, team," says Maya. The shop grows quiet and cozy. Good work. Good friends. Good night, little bakery.
