Lila was a little girl with bright eyes and tiny shoes. One sunny morning, she woke up early. Today was special. Today, Lila was going on her very first trip. She was going to Italy with her family.
Lila packed her little backpack. She put in her teddy bear, her red hat, and a small book. “Are you ready, Lila?” asked Mama. Lila smiled and nodded.
At the airport, everything felt big and new. Lila held Mama's hand tightly. She saw people with suitcases, big airplanes, and friendly helpers in blue jackets. On the plane, Lila looked out the window. The clouds looked like soft, fluffy pillows.
When they arrived in Italy, the air felt warm and smelled different. The streets were busy. Lila saw tall buildings, pretty flowers, and scooters zipping by. She heard people talking in gentle voices she did not understand. Lila was curious and wanted to see everything.
As they walked, Lila saw a fountain. She wanted to touch the water. “Mama, can I play?” she asked. But a kind lady in a green dress smiled and said gently, “No, sweetie. We do not play in the fountain.” Lila felt a little sad. She had never heard “no” like that before. Mama bent down and hugged her. “It's okay, Lila. The fountain is for everyone to enjoy. We can watch the water together.”
Lila sat with Mama and listened to the splashing water. She saw other children laughing and eating ice cream. She waved at them, and they waved back. Lila felt happy again.
Later, they walked to a small restaurant. The kitchen smelled wonderful. There was the smell of warm bread and sweet tomatoes. Lila closed her eyes and breathed in. The friendly cook smiled and gave her a piece of soft bread. “Grazie,” said Mama.
That night, Lila remembered the busy streets, the gentle “no,” and the smell of bread. She felt safe. She was glad she could see new places and meet new friends. Lila knew she would remember her adventure forever.
