Zing! Zing! The sky over Sparkle City glowed like a blue jellybean. Tiny lights blinked on tall buildings. Cars hummed. People waved. It was a happy, busy day.
High above, on a silver rooftop, stood a hero.
Her name was Captain Nova Nix.
She was a grown-up woman with warm brown skin and bright, star-shaped freckles on her cheeks. Her suit was midnight purple with shiny gold lines, like tiny roads of light. A long cape shimmered like a soft blanket of starlight. On her wrists were two round bands that gently pulsed: Nova Bands. They made her powers go whoosh!
Captain Nova Nix put her hands on her hips. “City, I've got you,” she said, smiling.
Down on Moonbeam Street, a little robot mail cart rolled by. It beeped and sang, “Letters! Letters! Happy letters!”
Then—clunk.
A big, round space-pod had landed right in the middle of the street. Not crashing. Just plopping, like a pudding cup.
A crowd gathered. No one screamed. A kid pointed. “It's shiny!”
The space-pod's door opened with a polite pfffft. Out floated three jelly aliens. They were squishy and pink. They wore tiny bow ties. They looked confused, not mean.
One jelly alien wobbled. “Um… hello,” it said. “We are lost.”
Captain Nova Nix swooshed down, cape flowing. She landed with a gentle tap. “Hello, friends,” she said. “Welcome to Sparkle City.”
The biggest jelly alien sighed. “Our map is… sticky. Also, we blocked your road. Sorry.”
Behind the pod, Moonbeam Street was closed. Buses had to turn. The robot mail cart bumped its wheels. “Beep… I can't deliver!”
Captain Nova Nix nodded. “No worries. We will fix this. That's what heroes do.”
She looked at the street. There was a small tunnel door nearby. It led to the under-street walkway, a hidden passage that helped people cross safely. But today, a thick, sparkly web of space-gum covered the tunnel door. No one could open it.
A baker held a tray of buns. “My buns are getting cold,” he said softly.
Captain Nova Nix lifted her chin. “Then we make a new way. We free the passage!”
She tapped her Nova Bands. “Nova Bands, glow!”
The bands lit up like two tiny suns. Captain Nova Nix took a slow breath. “Gentle power,” she whispered. “Careful and kind.”
She aimed at the space-gum web. “Star Sweep!”
A bright, soft beam swept over the gum. It didn't burn. It tickled. The gum giggled—yes, giggled—and loosened like silly string.
The jelly aliens blinked. “Your light is… polite,” one said.
Captain Nova Nix chuckled. “I try.”
She reached out with glowing hands. “Now, everyone, count with me. One… two… three!”
With a gentle pull, the last bit of gum came free. The tunnel door opened with a friendly click.
The baker clapped. “My buns can travel!”
The robot mail cart spun in a happy circle. “Letters! Letters! Thank you!”
Captain Nova Nix pointed to the open walkway. “This passage is for everyone. Let's keep it clear.”
The jelly aliens bounced. “We can help too!”
They floated to their pod and pressed a button. The pod lifted—whoooop—and moved to a big empty parking pad nearby. Perfect. Not blocking anyone.
Captain Nova Nix gave them a thumbs-up. “Great parking,” she said.
The biggest jelly alien bowed. “We will remember: streets are for feet. Pads are for pods.”
Captain Nova Nix laughed. “That's a good rule.”
The city cheered, not too loud. Just happy. Just warm.
As the sky turned soft purple, Captain Nova Nix walked down Moonbeam Street. She waved at the people. She waved at the jelly aliens. She waved at the robot mail cart.
“Goodnight, Sparkle City,” she said. “Sleep safe. Shine bright.”
Above her, the stars blinked like they were winking back.
