Blast Off
Nova Star walks down the bright street. She is tall and kind. She wears a shiny blue suit. Her cape is soft and silver. Her hair glows like the sun at dawn. Her boots make gentle thumps. Her eyes are warm and wide.
“Good morning, shuttle!” she says. A small shuttle sits on a landing pad. It looks like a friendly bug. It smiles with lights. Nova Star pats its side. The shuttle is named Comet. Comet is round and brave. Comet is ready to fly people to the stars.
A bell rings. “Come help!” says the mayor. The city is full of people. They wave from windows. They make little flags. Nova Star lifts Comet with a soft hum. Her hands glow with golden light. The city cheers, “Go, Nova! Go, Comet!”
The Big Breeze
A wind sings across the sky. It is a playful wind. It likes to make kites dance. It likes to tickle rooftops. Today the wind wants to see the shuttle. It blows and it blows. Comet wobbles. Some cables sway.
Nova Star laughs. She knows the wind is not mean. She stands like a tree. She spreads her arms. “Hold tight, Comet,” she says. Her voice is calm. The wind pushes again. Nova Star makes a soft shield. The shield hugs Comet like a warm blanket.
“Oh!” says a little child. “She is shining!” Nova Star beams. She lifts Comet higher. The engines purr. Comet sings a small song. The people clap. The city feels safe.
A little bird bumps the shield. It lands on Nova Star's cape. The bird chirps and flies away. Nova Star waves. “Bye-bye, friend,” she says.
Then a big cloud comes. It is a cotton cloud. It hides the sun for a moment. The cloud drops tiny raindrops. The raindrops fall like beads. They kiss Comet's glass. Comet blinks its lights.
“Don't worry,” says Nova Star. She makes a warm light hood for Comet. The raindrops turn into sparkling jewels and slide away. “All set,” she says. The city smiles.
Home Safe
It is time for Comet to go to sleep on the pad. People clap and sing a soft song. Nova Star checks every bolt. She hums a brave tune. Comet's lights twinkle like stars. The sky is a calm blue.
A tiny pebble rolls near the pad. Nova Star picks it up and puts it in a little box. “We keep things tidy,” she says. Comet blinks happily. “Thank you,” says Comet in a tiny beep. Nova Star taps its nose. She feels proud and gentle.
Night gently comes. The city glows with small lamps. Nova Star stands next to Comet. She watches the stars wake up. “Good night, city,” she says. “Good night, Comet.” The people in their homes sleep safe and warm.
Nova Star folds her cape around her shoulders. She smiles, brave and sweet. She knows she looked after the shuttle and kept everyone calm. The moon gives a soft nod. The city whispers, “Thank you, Nova Star.” Comet lights a little star. All is peaceful.
