Bunny Benji woke up with a big yawn and stretched his soft ears. Sunlight peeked through the curtains in his cozy room. Today felt special. Benji's favorite red ball was waiting for him at the end of his bed. He was ready to hop outside and play.
But when Benji bounced to the garden, his red ball was gone! Benji looked left, then right. No ball. He blinked and thought, “Hmm, where did my ball go?”
Benji wanted to find his ball. He put on his little detective hat. He clipped his tiny lamp to his ear. Now he was Detective Benji! He smiled. “Let's look for clues!”
First, Benji looked under the big green bush. He turned on his lamp and peered underneath. There were only soft leaves and a sleepy ladybug. “Hello, Ladybug!” said Benji.
“Hello, Benji,” said Ladybug. “What are you looking for?”
“My red ball is missing,” said Benji. “Have you seen it?”
Ladybug shook her tiny head. “No ball here. But I saw something round and red go rolling by early this morning.”
Benji's nose twitched. That was a clue! “Thank you, Ladybug!” he said and gave a little hop.
Next, Benji tiptoed to the carrot patch. He looked carefully between the orange carrots and green tops. His lamp shone bright. He saw a brown feather stuck in the soft dirt.
“Hoot!” called a friendly voice from above. It was Owl Olivia, sitting on a branch.
“Hello, Olivia!” said Benji. “Did you see my red ball?”
Owl Olivia blinked her big eyes. “Hmm, I saw something rolling through the garden. It went past the carrots and then toward the blue flowers.”
Benji's ears perked up. That was another clue! He clipped his lamp tighter and hurried to the blue flowers.
By the blue flowers, Benji met Squirrel Sammy. Sammy was sniffing the petals. “Hello, Benji!” said Sammy. “Why do you look so serious?”
“I am Detective Benji today,” said Benji. “I am looking for my red ball. Did you see it?”
Sammy nodded. “Yes, I saw something red rolling this way. Then it stopped near the big log, and I heard a tiny giggle.”
Benji smiled. He thanked Sammy and hopped to the big log. He looked all around with his lamp. He looked behind, beside, and even under. Suddenly, he heard a little squeak.
Behind the log, Benji found Mouse Millie. Millie was holding something shiny. It was Benji's red ball!
“Millie!” Benji giggled. “There's my ball!”
Millie's cheeks turned pink. “I'm sorry, Benji. The ball rolled down to me, and I wanted to play too. But it's your favorite. I was just hugging it.”
Benji smiled. “It's okay, Millie. Next time, just ask, and we can play together.”
Millie's eyes sparkled. “Can we play now?”
Benji nodded. “Yes! Let's invite everyone!”
Benji, Millie, Sammy, Olivia, and Ladybug made a circle. They rolled the red ball gently to each other. Sometimes it went slow, sometimes fast. Everyone waited their turn, and no one hurried.
“Thank you for helping me find my ball,” said Benji. “You are all great detectives!”
Ladybug waved. “It was fun to help!”
Owl Olivia hooted softly, “Watching and waiting is important.”
Squirrel Sammy did a happy twirl. “We make a good team!”
Mouse Millie hugged Benji. “Thank you for sharing.”
As the sun began to set, Benji's lamp glowed softly. The garden was quiet and warm. All the friends sat together, feeling happy and calm.
Benji took a deep breath. He thought about the clues he found and the friends who helped. “Sometimes we need to be patient and look carefully,” he said. “Then we can solve little mysteries together.”
The friends nodded. The day's adventure was over. Benji and his friends watched the sky change colors. The red ball rested quietly between them.
Now, it was time to go home and rest. The garden was peaceful. Detective Benji took off his hat and turned off his lamp. He knew tomorrow might bring another adventure, but for now, he was safe and happy with his friends.
