The Start of Summer
Lucy woke up one bright morning, her face full of excitement. "Today is the first day of summer vacation!" she exclaimed. Her mommy smiled and said, "Yes, Lucy! We have so many fun things to do!" Lucy clapped her hands happily and asked, "What are we doing first?"
"We're going to visit the community garden," her mommy replied. "There are flowers to water and vegetables to pick. Would you like to help?"
Lucy nodded eagerly. "Yes, yes! I want to help!" She put on her sun hat and grabbed her little watering can. Off they went, hand in hand, to the garden.
The Joy of Helping
At the garden, Lucy saw Ms. Green, the lady who took care of the plants and flowers. Ms. Green waved, "Hello, Lucy! Are you ready to be a garden helper today?"
Lucy nodded with a big smile. "I have my watering can!" she said proudly.
"That's wonderful!" said Ms. Green. "Could you water the sunflowers for me? They love a drink on sunny days."
Lucy walked carefully to the big, bright sunflowers. "Here you go, sunflowers. Drink up!" she sang as she gently poured water over the thirsty plants.
After watering, Ms. Green showed Lucy a patch of ripe, red tomatoes. "Would you like to pick some tomatoes, Lucy?" she asked.
Lucy carefully picked each tomato, placing them into a small basket. "These are shiny and red!" she giggled. "Tomatoes are happy today!"
Learning and Growing
Once the work was done, Lucy and her mommy sat under the shade of a big tree. "You did a great job today, Lucy," her mommy said. Lucy beamed with pride. "Helping in the garden is fun!" she replied.
"Helping is very important," her mommy explained. "When we help, we make things better for everyone. And the garden is happier and healthier."
Lucy thought about this. "I like making things better," she said. "Can we come back tomorrow?"
"Of course," her mommy said, giving her a hug. "Every day is an adventure in the garden."
As they walked home, Lucy looked around at the trees and flowers. "The world is so big and pretty," she said softly.
"Yes," her mommy agreed. "And you can make it even better, one little step at a time."
Lucy felt happy and warm inside. Summer was not just for playing; it was for learning and growing too. And she liked that very much.
